AI Overview
“ Singles became an iconic 90s film for its role as a cultural time capsule, authentically capturing the fashion, music, and romantic anxieties of Seattle's Gen-Xers at the height of the grunge movement. While it is a traditional romantic comedy at its core, the backdrop of a distinct time and place is what defines the film's lasting legacy.
I still love it to this day
The Music, the Characters, the Cameos from actual Band Members, the Plot. It was Perfect
It has one of the Best Movie Soundtracks Ever and definitely the Best from the 90’s

I wouldn't say the movie is iconic. Its an average romcom. The only thing that sets it apart is the setting.

Debbie, he is only like the next Martin Score-seize.

but that's what makes it an iconic 90s film

I was pretty young when it came out so I never saw it until maybe a year or two ago when it got mentioned here. It was ok...but more of a feel good nostalgia kind of watch. Was interesting seeing so many big rock stars have parts in it.

Pretty good movie and I love the references in there to Mother Love Bone. I really think that band was going to be something if Andrew Wood could have kicked his addiction and not overdosed. He was pretty damn charismatic.
Of course a couple of the guys went on to Pearl Jam and their success speaks for itself

I think the 90's are the last decade to have their own distinct "feel"
The 50's had a feel, as did the 60's, as did the 70's, as did the 80's, as did the 90's, etc.
However since the advent and widespread adoption of the internet, feels like things changed. Culture is far more homogenized and less distinct. Feels like the last 20 years have all been a generic cultural blur, things come and go quickly and nothing really sticks.

I stumbled upon them a few years ago after only having heard of them as a kid. Really liked his vocals.

Yeah, there's a YouTube video of them doing a show at The Central Saloon in Seattle. The recording quality isn't the best but they just had a good sound about them to me.

They had a commercial yet soulful like quality that kinda bridged 80's hard rock with grunge imo. I agree....they wouldve gone places.....

Oddly enough I randomly watched that movie last night. No idea the reason it just popped into my head. On Tubi.
Singles is loaded with cameos and first/early appearances even aside from the grunge musicians. Jeremy Piven, Paul Giamatti.
A good top one was Jim True-Frost, who played the main guy’s buddy David Bailey, and later the frickup cop Roland "Prez" Pryzbylewski on The Wire.
Until today I was sure that Debbie was played by Kelly Preston…nope.
Also to add, this movie wasn’t very good. It’s cool as a timepiece but very vapid.

This movie would be completely forgotten if not for the Pearl Jam and AIC cameos. Another 90s movie overshadowed by its soundtrack, just like Judgement Night.

To add further, I really hated those stupid Seattle grunge hats from bag then.

I had forgotten how great that soundtrack was. Not sure the movie qualifies as iconic but I'm glad you started this thread and reminded me about it. I never dressed grunge or anything but damn I loved the music.

Judgement Night was a fun movie and I loved the sound track (more than the movie)
