Good afternoon! Does anyone have a recommendation for an active / current golf course architect with Louisiana roots or having good experience here?

David Toms fits best what you are looking for.

Are you designing or opening a new course in LA?

Lipe is your answer, he's a little older but still around.

Jim Lipe continues to work as Senior Design Associate for Jack Nicklaus, as well as having his on golf course design firm in Shreveport. He has been responsible for some major golf courses throughout the country, most recently the renovation of Castle Pines GC, where the BMW Championship was played last year. He also designed Boot Ranch for Hal Sutton, and has worked with David Toms on multiple designs. He and David are presently is renovating East Ridge CC in Shreveport, and a few years ago, renovated Southern Trace CC also in Shreveport, and it is now one of the very best courses in the region. Highly recommended

Not saying much, the bar is very low for the worst golf state in the country.
Hopefully your investment is in the Felicianas or St Tammany Parish; if The Bluffs failed not sure a great golf course (unless private equity club) is enough in this poverty state.

Mark Maijer - worked along side Lipe at Jack Nicholas Design Group. Maijer Design Group. Lives in Shreveport area.
Joey Graziani - Bobby Weed Golf Design and Joey Grazizni Design. Lives on the North Shore.
Both are LSU graduates in Landscape Architerture.
i was working with Mark on a project we wanted to do when I was at Koasati Pines and he was great to work with. He is very creative and Maintenance friendly designer.
I recently spoke with Joey Graziani about a renovation I want to do in the next few years if approved. we are in the early stages

I'm pretty sure he designed Oakwing in Alexandria

Yes, he did Oakwing.
Although they go through ups and downs condition-wise, and have changed management groups several times, the design of the course is above average IMO.
He also worked in some of the previous holes from the air base course that was there prior. He also had to work around Alexandria airport rules regarding trees (14,15,16).
Think he did a pretty good job overall.

What area of the state are you trying to do something?

My best advice. Have your super in place for the build. I had the pleasure of working with a top 50 designer and while he built a beautiful course, my super hates me. Its just an incredibly hard course to maintain with hills, elevation and valleys. No matter how good the super he cant make water run against gravity so the hills are a bitch to maintain.
