The lady that rents from me called me Saturday and said that she's been seeing huge roaches in the bathroom recently.
I have had this property for 4 years and have never seen a roach in there.
An exterminator came out Tuesday and sprayed inside and out.
She called me last night to tell me that she was still seeing them pretty often.

This older lady has lived there alone for right at 2 years and this is the first time that this has occurred. She keeps the place immaculately clean, so I know it's not because food is lying around.

Is it the lack of rain causing the roaches to come in looking for water?

Any proven methods to get rid of them?

I fixed it.
Hopefully he prayed while he sprayed.

If they're the really large ones (water bugs as some call them) that we had in south georgia, I don't think there's any way for you to keep them out. One or two get in here an there.

We're all praying for you too brother.

But seriously, I had a previous tenant who constantly complained about bugs and I had the place sprayed and purchased these little night light bug catcher things for them. But after they left there have been no issues since. I think it was them. Dirty, messy people attract bugs and rodents.

Are they the little ones or those giant ones?

I've heard it's the little ones that are worrisome in terms of having an infestation problem- the big ones are solo and just opportunistic.

Not an exterminator but this is more than likely the case, especially if its the bathroom. The big ones are American cock roaches and supposedly only come inside looking for water. The little ones are German cock roaches and those are the buggers that nest and are hard to get rid of

The big ones come in from outside.

You don’t want to see small roaches as that typically means they’ve hatched in the walls on have infested your home.

OP literally stated "Big Roaches" and "huge roaches" in his post.

I know... it would be odd to have many BIG ones though- unless he's laid some new pinestraw lately or something.

In my experience, the roaches might come into view in the interior of the house after the exterminator sprays. This basically makes them stir crazy and avoidant of the sprayed areas. They should die off in the coming days.

Also, tell your tenant to vacuum the house.

The only changes over there are that the parish dug the ditches out about 2 weeks ago. Maybe they moved into the house after their ditch condos were destroyed.

Yeah, they like water.

It's odd to have more than one here or there... unless like another poster said, the spraying and praying drove them inside.

I hate seeing those things... heebie jeebies.

There's your answer, I think!

quote:

Yes, digging out ditches could cause palmetto bugs (American cockroaches) to come inside your house. The bugs are driven indoors for a few key reasons: they are sensitive to changes in their environment, and digging disturbs their natural outdoor habitat.

Screw the exterminator. Get some suspend sc off Amazon and spray it yourself. Bottle will last you for years. Kills everything.

Yes. I ve seen several a week over the past few weeks and I dont thing I saw any the whole past summer. During the drought two summers ago we would see one almost daily one of our bathrooms.

I spray the interior of our house with Ortho Max Home Defence a few times a year and still get incursions of the large ones every once in a while. We have a lot of trees which doesnt help either.
