tOSU trying to break up the Big Ten revenue sharing model

I guess they want to do to the B1G what Texa$$ did to the big 12

The Big Ten’s equal revenue-sharing model could change. Ohio State president Ted Carter told USA Today during an interview on Sept. 9 that he expects the Big Ten will talk about the revenue-sharing model, as the ACC adopted a model in which 60 percent of the conference’s media rights revenue will be distributed proportionally based on a five-year rolling average of each school’s football and men’s basketball TV ratings.
“It doesn’t matter what Ted Carter thinks. I think that’s going to be a conversation that will be had over time,” Carter said when asked by USA Today if the Big Ten should adopt a similar model to the ACC.
As it stands under the Big Ten’s current media rights deal, which runs through the 2029-2030 season, every program, except for the newest members Oregon and Washington, has an equal split of revenue. Considering Ohio State is often the most-watched college football team in the Big Ten, a shift to a proportional-based revenue model would only help the Buckeyes.
quote:
“I will say that there’s only a couple of schools that really represent the biggest brands in the Big Ten, and you can see that by the TV viewership,” Carter told USA Today. “I mean, look what we just went through with the Texas game. … 16.6 million people watching that game over the whole game, and it peaked at 18.6 million. It’s the most-watched opening game in history, the third-largest game ever watched in a regular season on Fox. That’s what happens when you put the Ohio State brand out there.”
While the conference’s revenue-sharing model could change, what will remain the same is Ohio State’s place inside the Big Ten, Carter said.
“I don’t want to get into the type of conversations that are happening inside the Big Ten,” Carter said. “I would just tell you that we’re a proud member of the Big Ten, and that’s where we’re going to stay. We have… our own bylaws for how we do the distributions. When new members join the conference, they don’t always come in at the same share. So … that’s the way our media rights deals are set up. That’s how we’re set up for now.”

They are greedy enough to try to get the 'haves' to break away from the 'have nots' if they didn't get want they want.

There aren't enough haves to fill out a league.
Nobody will tune in to see a conference with only them, Michigan, and Penn State.

I am not advocating for it in the least but think like the selfish do. They could try to take the top TV draws with them (see below) then even deal dirty with Notre Dame to make more money. When it comes to greed, I wouldn't count anything out.

"Man, frick Ohio State!"
Sir, you have a call. Ohio State on line 1 about the new TV conference proposal.
"Hold all the rest of my calls and clear my schedule, Janet."

Well, it’s complicated.
Nebby ran away from B12 and has suffered for it. Instead of staying and fighting tx you ran.
Now you are railing on your new devil. Hopefully you’ll stay and fight them. But you need to get your program back ip top and thats gonna be hard as you lost your prime recruiting ground.

I’m all for that monstrosity of a conference to call apart so I hope they push the issue.
Truthfully though the Big Ten schedulers in the interests of maximizing playoff records forgot one important thing….no one wants to watch Oregon play Northwestern.
People want to watch premier teams play each other.
It looks like the tv executives got to them a little bit this year as things look a little better but I think tune to fox twice last year. A little bit of Ohio state Oregon and then Ohio state Michigan.
I didn’t watch penn state until the playoffs because outside of Ohio state they didn’t have a single intriguing regular season matchup.

No surprise with that many egos ( OSU, Michigan, Penn State, USC, Oregon, Nebraska).
Teams like Iowa, Michigan State, and Wisconsin picked a bad time to be mid in football.

Could we be getting strength of schedule scheduling in each conference soon? Protect a few rivalries, then the remaining games for each team are scheduled like the NFL based on how you finished the previous year

Exactly. If they bring it up for a vote, it’ll fail 2-16.

Prob inevitable to ultimately have a league of the 20 or so big names that draw eyeballs

OSU can go pound sand. Enjoy your independence.

I think the Iowa program is benefitting very nicely from the revenue sharing program in the B1G.

Your population is 2.005 million apparently.

True.
Of course, that 20 will have a bottom half so you'll still get Ohio State complaining. So then it's rinse and repeat.

Iowa carries its weight. We're consistently in the top 20 in the NCAA in revenue, fan following, program value, and every other metric.
My point is that OSU didn't just do this all alone. They benefited from being in the most stable conference for over a century. Now they want to go all Texas and become a conference killer? Get out, if you don't like it. Go play by yourselves.
Go join the SEC, then demand unequal revenue sharing. You'd all be okay with that, right?
