Pure speculation but as a sheriff's officer I'm guessing the dad saw the photo and grilled the shite out of his son til he confessed.

Eventually yes, if we had competent leadership at the FBI, it might have even been prevented.

Eventually yes. The governor said they had footage of him arriving to campus in his car, then driving south to go back home after the shooting. They would've caught him eventually, dad and minister just sped things up.

Sounded to me like they were already on him and the confession was just confirmation.

I thought all along his family would recognize him once those photos and videos came out. I would imagine his dad confronted him over it knowing it was him.

It certainly sped things up. They would have got him very soon otherwise.

I think anyone who knew where this guy was the past 2 days and didn't speak up should be charged for harboring a fugitive murder.

Zero doubt he would have been caught. Clear pictures of him, someone would have recognized him. FBI had something like 7000 tips come in. No doubt that some of those tips were people who knew the guy that was on the news. He wore his usual converse, probably a hat he normally wears, etc.

He probably had nowhere to run after realizing his image was all over the news. Couldn't go back to his dorm or apartment. His mom and dad definitely recognized the shooter on the news and probably called him.

It sped up the process for sure, but he was going to be captured. FBI got the pictures and video out in the public space very quickly. the had silver/grey charger, change of clothes, they most likely had some kind of DNA, shell casing, rifle information. the crime lab would have eventually painted the perpetrator

this kid was not smart, he was going to get caught.

do you think a 22 year old knucklehead whose picture was getting posted everywhere and couldnt even hold up to his dad's questioning would have been able to remain concealed from the power of the entire federal law enforcement system and the wrath of all of conservative America on the internet? not a chance. the Dad just sped up the process.

So0 the FBI should have every square inch of every campus in the US covered with officers to prevent this? Sorry its unrealistic to expect any governmental agency to have that power.

You cant want the government to leave you the f alone and stop surveilling but also want that kind of control where they could have prevented this.

I believe a minister id’d him and contacted the USMarshalls who contacted his dad. Being a 27 yr LEO they probably knew him.
