It's really fun when LSU has the consistency of a Laron or Adams or understanding of a Steltz. Our overall defense is superb, this is not a critique at all, but nastalgically I always thought it was cool to see how many different ways a great safety can impact the game.

I have a feeling we're going to get a moment that reminds me of one of those guys on Saturday..

I think the safeties will develop into a very good, if not dominant, group. The transfers can consistent, and Spears (perhaps Toviano) could grow into something special.

I would offer both Cooley and Haulcy have been superb. Holding down their positions & contributing positively to the overall DEF play. Haulcy IMO adds another LB-light body back there and has had some nice pass breakups. Since he has been on the field, the DEF has only given up a blown coverage TD.

Haulcey for sure. Cooley has been good but not great imo.

But…. Nothing.

Our safeties have been very good through the first 2 games of the season.

Every level of the defense has been fantastic.

This is just typical LSU fan who can’t be happy and has to bitch about something

It is a different era for safeties. You can't have the slobberknocker guys anymore. They are liabilities in coverage. That is the reason for the rise of the Star position.

Not just that, they’ve legislated that style of play out of the game. Nowadays of a safety comes down and makes a big hit you’re holding your breath waiting for the targeting flag. Combine that with modern offensive schemes and I think it’s a much harder position to play today.

That’s not to say a guy like Landry couldn’t excel in today’s game.. but I think it would look a lot different.
