Are you comfortable putting the needs of a stranger above the needs of your wife and children? Or your family in general?

If you engage in a potentially deadly situation involving a stranger you have decided that you are willing to die and deprive your family of you and all that you bring in order to possibly help someone who you don’t know. You have in essence placed your family in 2nd place behind a stranger.

Some of you have small children: Are you good with them growing up without you in their lives?

I’m not saying you shouldn’t try to help. I’m saying think it through ahead of time.

Yes, if a 100lb woman who can’t defend herself is being stabbed.

He’s lucky he was where he was. I would’ve stabbed him with my knife, no questions asked I’ll ask the jury for leniency (if carrying was allowed I wouldve had zero issue shooting him). I'm not going to watch someone get stabbed to death.

My family will understand if I perish and get life insurance on top of other goodies. (They will find my weed stash eventually)

Maybe the other people would have watched you get stabbed to death.

Life isn’t like TV. Knife fights are brutal.

If you engage in a potentially deadly situation involving a foreign nation you have decided that you are willing to deprive your citizens of their tax dollars and possibly their children to possibly help another country who wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire. You have in essence placed your country in 2nd place.

I've seen posts bashing the other commuters for not intervening. I think everyone of those people were in shock, and didn't fully understand what just had happened. Probably thought the guy just hit her instead of stabbing her. I couldn't tell that lady was bleeding out from watching that video of the 15-20 seconds after the incident. I wouldn't knock anyone there because I wasn't in their shoes.

What would have been better for the poor girl is if someone would have had the mental acumen to try to help wrap and stop the bleeding before she bled out.

Ok

I said if I perished my family would understand.

Again, I’m not watching some 180 lb dude stab someone to death in front of me. I’m doing something. Figure it the frick out.

The iqs on board couldn’t equal a perfect bowling score.

Cool.

What about trying to help AFTER the fact? How do you defend that?

Sadly correct. A tight wrap around it and constant pressure may have saved her life. Filming video (saw a bystander in a pic doing it) didn’t quite do the trick.

My family would understand.

I don't see how this is any different than joining the military

OP: You also need to add:

Depending on your location and demographic information of those involved, if you jump in to assist, it will be YOU who gets charged and not the perp. The media could potentially see to it that your life and your family's life is ultimately ruined. (See Daniel Penny)

The saddest part of the equation involves considering what state you are in. If in NY and you take action against the assailant, you are likely going to be charged or your life destroyed.

Now as for helping the victim, definately yes, hopefully not putting yourself in danger to do so, but still yes.

Based on the video I have seen… nobody said a word until much later.

This is completely asinine and typical self center thinking.

I would help anyone in need if it was within my means to do so because these are human beings we're talking about first and second I would hope someone wasn't a selfish asshat and help my family member if they were in trouble.

If you're scared to get involved that don't but helping other people even if strangers is what sets human apart from basic animals.

Perfectly is that's what God will for me. What I'm not comfortable with is living my life a coward knowing I did nothing if it was in my means to help someone. I'm sure my children would agree.

Probably a fat keyboard warrior for even suggesting I’d yell at the guy

It is common discussion for people who carry concealed firearms.
