Be weary if:

1. A potential buyer/seller seems too eager or pushy
2. They request personal information like a phone number or name. They do not need that information to process a Cash App, PayPal, or Venmo transfer.
3. They request to see proof of tickets. If you do show proof, do not include name information, bar code, or season ticket account number.
4. They have generic email addresses or don't use real names. Avoid names like Big Dawg for example.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, he kept asking for my phone number over and over, which he does not need. Then he said, “ I tried sending the cashapp is asking for the full name and number to these accounts so I can add you as a recipient” which we all know is BS.

I gave him my cell # (which isn't tied to any of my bank/credit accounts), which resulted in the text from "Venmo."

He asked me if I had gotten a text from Venmo confirming payment and I told him I got a text, but it wasn’t from Venmo.

His response "what text?"

Silence since.

I get asked to confirm the last 4 of a phone number all the time to send Venmo. How do you avoid this?

I was just coming on here to post the same. He tried me in August and I figured it out. He tried again this morning. Here was the alleged text from Venmo:

VENMO Alert: Account Limit
Dear Customer,

Unfortunately, we encountered a little problem while trying to credit your Venmo ®? account, you received a payment of $600.00 USD but we had an issue depositing that amount to your account because the status of your Venmo®? account is not a business user which makes your account have a limit and this amount seems to be above your limit. You have to take the urgent step to expand your account limit.

[FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS]
Contact the payee of your account to help you send an additional payment of $500.00 USD so that your limit can be expanded, As soon as this is done we will send you a notification before we process the total payment into your Venmo®? account. Your account will be credited with the total sum of $1,100.00 USD immediately with no delay.

Note: An alert has been sent to the sender in regard to the $500.00 USD additional payment he/she has to send to you, we will secure this transaction with high priority that neither the payer or payee loses funds on any transaction we hold.

For further QUESTIONS - Call us +1 (804)-466-8150 for immediate assistance.

Thanks for using Venmo.

Venmo does not send these types of texts. Also, Venmo does not limit the amount that can be transferred. Wierd this is happening on the buyer's side. I did give my cell phone number which is why I got the text. The text originated from a known scammer's phone number. When he asked if I got the text from Venmo, I told him that

yes I did and that I reported it to the FBI.
Haven't heard back from him since.

Last four is fine, and Zelle includes that too, but no need for the entire phone number.

Encountered another one this morning - going by the name of Mark Haque. Insisted on a phone number for Zelle. I sent him the proper Zelle link and QR code with explanation phone number is not necessary-- then silence.

ETA - sorry just saw this was already posted a few above.

Out of curiosity, why would you say a scammer would want to see "proof of tickets". I'm not a scammer and that is exactly what I ask.

And then when I get back some dummied up email or screen shot looking like they have tickets from Ticketmaster, I know to stay away. People have shown me fake Ticketmaster screenshots for both baseball and football.

Of course, I wouldn't expect the seller to show the barcode or anything. I guess some wouldn't know better (don't do that!) But from a buyers perspective, seeing something that looks legit is helpful.

I got the same as bfolse15:

Asked for proof of tickets (I said I could send later)

Emails were from Craig Glem and I got the text with the Business Venmo insufficient funds act

What is odd is that the text disappeared from my text history almost as fast as it came.
