DAT 9/9: Astros (Garcia) @ Blue Jays (Berrios) 6:07 PM

18 games left to play, 2 game lead in the division and 3.5 game lead for the final wild card spot. Not really a whole lot left to say. Offense is putrid, lineup is filled top to bottom with nut less wonders. Movie theme? Here’s where we are:

If the Astros are still in first place this time next week, I will honestly be shocked. Seattle has gotten their shite together and is home with St Louis and Anaheim this week. Astros in Toronto without either Brown or Framber going could be disastrous.
If there was ever a time for the offense to come to life consistently, this is it.

I'm fully expecting to be in 3rd place by the end of this week unfortunately

I know from the outside, we look to be a spoiled fanbase, and maybe we are, and we get accused of bitching about the team too much even though we are in first place....so some may say what you posted is hyperbole....but it absolutely is not.
This team has played subpar baseball for 2 months. Since the Dodger sweep July 4th weekend, the Astros are 23-31. The offense is very inconsistent. Altuve is broken. Walker and Diaz are useful only occasionally, at best. The bullpen is woefully thin. The starting pitching has Hunter Brown followed by an un-trustable Framber, an over-achieving Costanza, and a bunch of guys trying to come back from injury on the fly.
If Seattle takes care of business at home this week, they very well may be in 1st very soon. I think Arlington is due to fade because of their injuries on offense, but their pitching is so good they will be in every game.
I think it is simple--either the Astro offense wakes up from their long slumber or we will be stuck watching everyone else play in October.

Altuve is broken
The latest Altuve extension is as bad as Montero, Abreu, and Walker contracts.
The Crane/Bagwell brain trust managed to close the window early

Altuve could be beginning the Biggio slide. This will continue as the hunt for 3,000 hits continues.
Altuve has always been exempt from the other contract parameters Crane set for everyone else because, essentially, he’s the face of the franchise. Altuve took less to stay with the Astros and avoid a free agent fate like Bregman and the others who have departed. No reason to think Altuve is going anywhere. It’s a sunk cost. So buckle up and enjoy the highs and the increasing amount of lows.

An aging Altuve has played in 139 of 144 games. The answer as always is Espada is a moron.

Shouldn’t the Astros logo be on the hat of on his death bed doc holiday with his tuberculosis riddled lungs?
That seems the better choice to represent the Astros

September used to be so exciting, and maybe it will be again. But lately, I start watching every game with a sense of dread. This team doesn't have "it". I guess I still hope the arrival of Correa will ignite that fire, but so far it hasn't done so.

We're not at that part of the film yet. Soon.
