Smoke Bayou on Coursey

This location has been through a lot of changes, it was Tex-Mex, it was BBQ, now it is BBQ again. We picked up dinner there last night and I was pleasantly surprised. My wife had pulled pork with Coleslaw, she is very picky about her PP, too much fat or a small piece of gristle, no way. She raved about how much pork on the sandwich and the coleslaw was spot on.
I had a combo platter of ribs, chicken and sausage, it came with 2 sides, I selected M&C and BBQ beans @ $28. If that sounds high, it was enough for dinner last night and tonight, generous portions. I really liked the ribs, a little bite, not quite fall off the bone, which is nice, the chicken and the ribs were seasoned just right.
They are minority owned, which is almost a requirement for good BBQ. I hope they do well in this location.

Sounds promising. I wasn't impressed with the last bbq place in that location.
Currently if I need a fix I drive over to Government and go to offset. Best platter of bbq i've had in Baton Rouge to date.

They are very good. I used to get food from them at their old location before they moved to Coursey. The owner is trying a little too hard on social media, but I've never had a bad meal there.
Mr. Chimetime, a Youtube influencer, ripped them to shreds on a food review. It's pretty funny, and looking at the food given to them, well deserved.
Their portions are insane and all their food so rich that when I do get it, it's enough to either share with my wife or have a meal for the next day.
My only complaint is I wish their meat was a little "smokier." Wild since their name is Smoke Bayou.
As wild as it is, for BBQ $28 is a steal for what you get and how much you get. In Texas, that would run you around $45.
While I don't agree with this, another great spot is Offset on Government, which is Asian-owned. And of course Gonzo's in Lulling which rivals a lot of what's in Texas, and they are white-owned.

I placed a catering order in advance for pickup at 5:00 p.m. I arrived at 4:50pm, and they didn't give me my food until 5:50 pm.
The place was not busy, and they just kept saying, "We are working on it."
The food is good but need to work on speed of service.
