Could Babe Ruth & Ted Williams crack a starting lineup in today's MLB ?

Sigh. Nothing like a straw man on the opposite side of a straw man to really drive a point home.

They had to face guys pitching from a 15-inch mound, and you couldn't wear body armor or lean over the plate.

Pitchers didn’t throw that slow back then. Slower than today but a lot of them threw between 80-90 mph (estimated)
Or is the point of the OP that players today suck?

And it was the dead ball era, ball was like mush compared to today where they are hitting Titleist's.
And doctoring the baseball was legal until 1920's.
Imagine hitting a dead ball where they were allowed to cut/scuff/spit on the ball.

They were also pacing themselves since they were throwing 350-400 innings as starters.

Or just remind them that Bartolo Colon hit a home run in the major leagues less than 10 years ago.

The only thing worse than the people who think older players wouldn't have stood a chance in today's game are the geezers who think modern players are significantly worse than prior generations after moving towards year-round specialization and spending gazillions of dollars in R&D.
Not a chance Skenes makes it out of the 1st inning in 1918 while also getting an extra 10 inches on every side of the plate. No way
Comparing generations that far apart is such a waste of time.

He would’ve blown everyone away with 100+ mph high fastballs

There’s always been grown men that have thrown hard, the problem was there wasn’t the technology available to accurately calculate it. Koufax, Gibson, & Ryan all were power pitchers and to a man they all said Bob Feller was the most dominant power pitcher of all-time and it wasn’t even close.
Bob Feller is the only man in MLB history to win 24 games in a season before they turned 21 years of age.
quote:
Bob Feller's fastest recorded pitch speed is 98.6 mph, clocked by a U.S. Army ordnance device in 1946, but this was measured at home plate. Based on the device's technology, which measured the ball after it passed the sensors, the pitch's speed as it left Feller's hand was estimated to be as high as 107.6 mph.

That being your deduction from my posts in this thread is truly something.

We have these arguments in every sport. It’s a waste of time.

Feller also threw 20 complete games at age 19.

Correct, the cream generally rises to the top, and it's fruitless to compare players a century apart. If anything, the players at the top of modern sports are probably most representative of its generation's best players since they had access to year-round resources instead of getting shipped off to war for years at a time or having to sell cars in the offseason to make ends meet.

Maybe I misunderstood
Skenes is clearly a generational player
What was your point
ETA: I just got it. I’m stupid

If I wanted to see baseball like Babe Ruth and Ted Williams played I’d just go to a Chalmette game

What a roll you’re on, three days in. Your ban can’t come soon enough.
