New computer boot issues.

I built a new PC over the summer. Asrock X870E Taichi motherboard, 9950x3d cpu, 7900xtx gpu with 1000 watt power supply.

Computer has been working great for the last few months. Every time I am not using it, I have been shutting it off.

Worked fine Monday night. Wednesday night go to turn it on and I can’t even get a boot or bios. Motherboard is reading an error code 03.

Based on what I read online it’s a component not sitting right which is odd because the pc has not moved or the cpu not working with the bios.

I reflash the bios and get it to boot. Go to restart to test and same issue and code.

Clear CMOS get to boot and same issue, go to reboot and won’t get to bios.

Reseat the cpu and crank it up with same issue.

Reseat the ram and it gets it to crank a few times but after that back to same error code and no boot.

What am I missing? Bad ram? CPU looks fine, no dead spots.

Trying to not have to take it to a computer tech but I am at a loss at this point.

Did you try booting it with minimal things plugged into MB? No hard drive, onboard graphics only , 1 stick of ram?

Not sure if this is related to an update causing problems.

It sounds like it could be a hardware problem. Bent pin on the board?

My computer did something strange a week ago. When I booted up, it told me it couldn't find an operating system.

I had to get into BIOS. For whatever reason the OS drive was moved to the bottom of the boot sequence. I had to fix that and it worked

Take the CPU out again and check both the CPU and motherboard socket for any deformation or discoloration. If you don’t see anything, be very, very intentional when you install the retention bracket again.

I hate random CPU frickiness…

Well that’s news I hate to read.

Would be my luck right when I convert to AMD this would happen.

I had to drop it off at a repair shop. 4-5 hrs of doing everything I knew how to do took its toll.

I guess I will wait to see what they say. It may be smart to send them this article as a place to start.

In AMD’s defense, it’s an Asrock issue, not an AMD issue, but yeah…

You were right. No dice on the repair shop. They said RMA and send both motherboard and CPU.

That genuinely fricking sucks, man. I wonder if they would be willing to cross ship a board. Then you could just go buy another CPU and get the refund from them when you get it.

Or just refund both so you can buy something that isn’t from Asrock

I have never RMA. What do I have to do send it back then wait for them to test it then send another one? What happens with the CPU? Repair shop said it didn’t have any marks or look bad but who knows.

Everyone’s RMA process is different. I would contact Asrock and also, because this is a known issue, see whether they have anything on their website about it.

The AM5 I have in my cart is Asrock (x870 Pro Wifi), even though I've used MSI for AMD procs for 15 years, due to a Windows boot issue I had with Win11 two years ago. Why do you say it's an Asrock issue? Just mobo, or the brand?

Asrock put out a fricky bios that was pushing too much voltage and frying AMD 9000 series chips. If you make sure to immediately update your bios when you build, you should be fine at this point. But I’m fairly certain that’s the issue that fricked OP.

Well, 4 days into the RMA process and still waiting for them to send me the information to send it off.

Asrock said I need to send them the board for them to inspect and in the meantime call AMD and go through RMA with them. Asrock would not take the CPU (so that's my next call to AMD).

The customer service rep I talked to at Asrock was helpful. Apparently its a 1 month to 1.5 month process all in from them.

No telling on AMD.

Let the fun begin.

Hopefully AMD will be more helpful. With that said, the magic words are "cross ship". See if either/both are willing to send you a working part if you're willing to give them a credit card to hold on file. If they approve your return, you're good. If not, you then have to return what they sent you or pay for it.
