2. The files contain evidence to bring down dozens of rich and powerful people

Hoax probably isn't the best word, but it's close enough to understand what people mean when they say it.

#2 is the main issue for me. Any evidence against powerful people has likely been "lost." The "hoax" is that the files contain what people want them to contain.

When Trump calls it a hoax, he primarily means that the democrats and their helper Republicans are using the issue to divide MAGA and overshadow the administration's achievements.
