Reducing the police force? Lowering taxes? Less bureaucracy? Less military? I don’t understand what conservatism is without simply stating keeping all the money for yourself. No wonder greed drove the RINOs to the left.

Regional balkanization with a mutual defense agreement and favorable trade.

According to some on here, small government is the complete absence of government from any aspect of life.

An understandable reaction to the ever growing government interference in people's lives.

A government that doesn’t coerce its citizens with the IRS would be a good start. A government that doesn’t continually create departments with unelected individuals who make rules to stifle freedoms would be good also.

There’s a way to have an efficient smaller government, but it would be a monumental generational struggle to get it there.

Total government spending, including Federal, state and local, is currently about 37% of GDP.

A small government would be about 1/3 of that; certainly no more than half.

I would like to start with a truthful, just, and upright government.

Only government that should effect everyday life is local and state. Not federal.

Just barely enough to handle the common defense, settle interstate trade disputes, conduct foreign affairs.

I want a government so small that I don’t even know it’s there. If I’m having my personal life affected by government then guess what, it’s too big and too powerful.

A federal government that abides by the 10th Ammendment and basically is only responsible for 1) a common defense 2) foreign policy and 3) common currency

That’s it.

Reducing the police force?

No, that is local. Reducing federal crime agencies, sure thing. ATF, DEA, FBI...all can be shrunk. That other letter agency can just be abolished.

Lowering taxes?

Federal, yep. At least quit making me pay for foreign nation building and grt control of SSI benefits given to scammers. Also, if government took back control of its own money, that would help a lot.

 Less bureaucracy?

Yes, on all levels. Government says they create jobs. They do not, unless it is government jobs. Somewhere around...what...14-15% of all workers work for government on some level. That is too high. Cut that in half.

Less military?

Yes. Stop being Team America, World Police. Great movie idea, horrible practice. We spend more than the next 10 combined. Logistically, we do not even need to be in the top 10 in spending. With 2 big oceans bordering us and the largest insurgency the world would ever see, who is our military spending fooling?

When our democratic republic was founded, local government was supposed to be the strongest, state government next, and federal government was supposed to exist only to protect the nation from external dangers. FDR turned this arrangement upside down. Federal government is far too involved in our daily lives.
