A federal judge has temporarily halted the planned U.S. deportation of Guatemalan children amid President Trump’s intense crackdown on immigration.

In a court filing Sunday, lawyers for the children said they were “ten (10) unaccompanied minors from Guatemala between the ages of 10 and 17 whom Defendants are seeking to remove from the United States in clear violation of the unambiguous protections that Congress has provided them as vulnerable children.”

A later order from U.S. District Judge Sparkle L. Sooknanan reads that “given the exigent circumstances” the court “has determined that an immediate Order is warranted to maintain the status quo until a hearing can be set.”

“As the Plaintiffs have satisfied the four factors governing the issuance of preliminary relief, the Court accordingly ORDERS that: 1) The Plaintiffs’ 2 Motion for TRO is GRANTED; 2) The Defendants shall not remove any of the individual Plaintiffs from the United States for 14 days absent further Order of the Court; and 3) The parties shall appear for a hearing on August 31, 2025, at 3:00 p.m,” the order continues.

The order follows a letter from Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) detailing plans by the administration to remove nearly 700 Guatemalan children who had come to the U.S. without their parents, The Associated Press reported Friday.

“This move threatens to separate children from their families, lawyers, and support systems, to thrust them back into the very conditions they are seeking refuge from, and to disappear vulnerable children beyond the reach of American law and oversight,” Wyden wrote in the letter to Angie Salazar, acting director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement, a component of the Department of Health and Human Services.

This a-hole.

she was a law clerk for Justice Sonia Sotomayor of the U.S. Supreme Court. From 2012 to 2013, she worked at the United States Department of Justice as an appellate attorney in the Civil Division.

Sooknanan was a deputy associate attorney general in the U.S. Department of Justice from 2021 to 2023. From 2023 to 2025, she served as the principal deputy assistant attorney general in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.[6]

On February 21, 2024, President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Sooknanan to serve as a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.[6] Sooknanan was recommended to the seat by Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton.[9] On February 27, 2024, her nomination was sent to the Senate. President Biden nominated Sooknanan to the seat vacated by Judge Florence Y. Pan, who was elevated to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on September 28, 2022.[10] On March 20, 2024, a hearing on her nomination was held before the Senate Judiciary Committee.[11] During her confirmation hearing, she was questioned by Senator Josh Hawley over her work for Jones Day representing hedge fund investors working in Puerto Rico.[12] Sooknanan served as lead counsel on behalf of Puerto Rican bondholders or vulture funds who were seeking to maximize recovery of money during the Puerto Rican government-debt crisis.[13] Sooknanan told Hawley that she had not been lead counsel, although legal records and Jones Day confirmed that she had been lead counsel.[8] On April 18, 2024, her nomination was reported out of committee by a 11–10 party-line vote.[14][15] On November 20, 2024, the United States Senate invoked cloture on her nomination by a 51–49 vote.[16] On December 3, 2024, her nomination was confirmed by a 50–48 vote.[17] She received her judicial commission on January 2, 2025.[1]

Below is the great scholar from f*cking Trinidad and Brooklyn Law School. Yeah, the Biden Administration picked some great nonpartisan scholars to be on the bench.

Sparkles -- Go figure, right....

Where did they get the power to rule the country? People act like having a king or “dictator” is the worse thing. Well, I got news, we’re there. But since they’re called judges, that apparently makes it okay.

Andrew Jackson ignored the corrupt judges. Trump is a lame duck. Why doesn't he do the same?
