Iowa Republican Sen. Joni Ernst has decided not to seek reelection to a third term, two people familiar with the decision say, and is poised to make an announcement next week.
Ernst, 55, has been wrestling with the decision for months, but began telling friends in recent days.
Her retirement creates an open Senate seat in Iowa. Rep. Ashley Hinson is making plans to jump into the race, one GOP official says. National Republicans, anticipating Ernst’s retirement, have long said they believe Hinson would be a strong candidate.
A crowded field of Democrats is already running. The party’s primary field includes state Rep. Josh Turek, a Paralympian wheelchair basketball player, state Sen. Zach Wahls, Knoxville Chamber of Commerce executive director Nathan Sage and Des Moines School Board chair Jackie Norris.

In all honesty regardless of who it is 3 terms is more than enough

Yep three terms should be the limit!!

These people act like it’s a life or death decision. You don’t do squat while you serve.
Bye bye.
Bye bye.

At times, Ernst couldn't be counted on. Hopefully, Hinson is a little more "unencumbered" than her, but it sounds like the Establishment GOP is pushing her.

Jesus, I’d have never thought Grassley would outlast her.

He might outlast her replacement

That's not a qualifier for the job.

But the issue is, Dems don’t do this and Ernst was a good one in general.

Grassley's not worried about her. His real competition is Keith Richards.

If he is gay and black ….he might be the Dem they are waiting for on the national level.

Hopefully it’s the last we see of: Ernst, Cassidy, McConnell, Cornyn

I guess her days of fricking military liaison officers is over.

Neither is a school board chairwoman

She came in with Tea Party promise, and like Rubio, turned establishment within three weeks.
