I’m shopping for a blade to use to maintain some hilly woods roads in SW MS. I’ll be needing to pull some small ditches in spots and build/maintain water bars. I’ll probably get a land plane, too, but the angle blade will be for rougher shape my and crude drainage work.

My question is how important offset capability is. Obviously I need to tilt and angle it. Will I want to be able to kick it out outside of my tire tracks often? I have 2 rear remotes and may get a multiplier/splitter if I think I’ll need it for a blade with 3 functions.

I wouldn't have one without offset, personally.

I will also say that I use my york rake/landscape rake as much if not more than my grader blade for pulling gravel from the side or roads and doing finish work, even more so than a land plane. It's one of the most handy, multi use tractor attachments made and is perfect for working gravel.

I have a Land Pride that I use with my 30hp Kubota. It does a pretty good job. I use it for keeping my road ditches cleared out and keeping my gravel drive way smooth.

That one looks good for true road building. I need a 3-pt model.

You need the offset because the effective length/reach of the blade gets shorter on the cut side when you angle the blade.

Thanks. Yeah. I’ve thought of that. I’ll buy one wide enough to cover my tracks when angled 45-degrees, regardless. Tractor tires are 6’ and I’ll get at least a 7ft model. Have been unsure if I still need to be able to swing it outside even farther.

I’d get a blade that swings.

Do you have one you’d recommend?

Don't own a tractor and have never pulled a blade. But I'm from the "It's better to have it and not need it..." school of thought and these ole boys bring up some pretty good points. So, if I ever buy one it'll have offset.

Out da box tractors.

Top and Tilt kits to angle a 3 pt. blade SUCK. The valves- even Kubota’s don’t have a check in them and leak down way faster than what mere mortals find acceptable…..making the tilt function frustrating to use with a blade and maddening when bushhogging or disc’ing.

That blade Out da box showed can do it all.

<- Source….have been involved in the movement of millions of yards of material with tractors and dirt buckets.

I have a woods on my 28hp tractor. I use it to keep up a shared gravel drive.

I find that it doesnt have enough weight to really dig into the gravel. Box works much better for me.

I definitely doubted the capabilities of the light duty models. The one I just picked up is not short on weight. Got a good deal, so we’ll see how it goes.
