New doc on Netflix. Started last night but didn’t make it far before falling asleep. Looking forward to it. Some of the images and video of people clueless about what was about to happen in just a few hours is sad.

Anyone looking forward to this?

I look forward to Katrina docs every year just like a good 9/11 doc.

My favorite holidays.

No. The documentary market is already oversaturated with Katrina pieces, just like the OT is with posts from you

Watched it last night with the wife.

If you’re wanting a documentary about the overall Katrina disaster, you’ll be disappointed. If you want a documentary about the black experience in the Katrina disaster with plenty of “white-man bad and everything is their fault” sprinkled in, you’ll love it.

I don’t want to see a doc from some liberal from Cali. I want someone from here to make a real doc of how crazy everyone was in those few weeks. Leading up and after.

Watched the entire thing last night.

Watched a national geo one a week or so back.

Gen Honore is the man

Also sick and tired of the excuses, besides the corp of engineers failure and govt response failure, that people in both docs blame including racism

Certainly isn’t new.
Came out awhile ago.
Spike Lee is behind it, so racism is a central theme.

I bet it doesn't even talk about the destruction to the Mississippi gulf coast either. Or the fact that the total deaths from Katrina by race were virtually even (569 whites vs. 549 blacks/hispanics). What happened in New Orleans was a failure of state and local officials to properly prepare despite having days of leeway time.

Exactly.

Its like 10 years old, and while has sone factual components, it is overall, crap.

Sick of it, and of Spike Lee.

If you knew nothing about Katrina and this Netflix documentary is your first introduction to it, you’d have no idea that the Mississippi Gulf Coast was affected at all. It’s not mentioned once.

Again, if this documentary was your only point of reference, you’d think pre-Katrina New Orleans was 99.99998% black and those few white New Orleans residents were all able to evacuate and set up in fancy hotels in places like Nashville while the poor, but heroic, black population was purposefully forced to stay. All the survivors they interview are black except one, a white red headed lady who was in the hospital with her black SO giving birth to his baby during the Hurricane.

They did cover some of that briefly in episode one. Most blame was put on GWB, especially in episode 2 & 3.

I watched the first two episodes last night. Only white people to be found anywhere so far are Kathleen Blanco and Mitch Landriu. He is very proud of the fact that he was once the lieutenant governor of Louisiana. He mentioned it about 37 times in 10 minutes.

Not one mention of Lakeview or the Mississippi Gulf Coast yet. Not holding my breath that is going to be touched on in episode 3.

And yes, Spike Lee is behind it so of course they brought back that crazy arse woman from the first documentary. Phyllis something or other is her name. Huge shocker that this woman did not age very well over the last 20 years.

The interviewed the same dude from the Hulu Katrina documentary that was recently released. I forget his first name, but his last name is Shelton. Amazing how the Hulu documentary portrays him as a pretty decent guy, and the Netflix documentary portrays him as a huge whining victim throughout the entire thing.

All in all, I’ll watch the last episode because it’s just like watching a train wreck at this point.

Episode 3 was too much for me. First off, it’s like an hour and a half long and it’s quite boring. I made it a little over halfway before I said that enough and turned on a First 48 to go to sleep.

Typical blame everyone else for their problems.

And overdramitized experiences. One woman says a 2x4 would have taken her head off of she had looked outside mere seconds later, and another man says winds in NO were 150mph.

Not much mention of Mississippi where homes were really leveled.

I watched the first two episodes. Same old shite honestly. Incompetent leadership, poor people in the poverty areas were overlooked, racist whites blah blah blah. It's just lazy storytelling at this point.
