Anyone else getting 2003 vibes for this defense??

2003 was an awesome defense which only one team scored over 20 on LSU. This defense might rival that or be even better

No. I’m bullish on this defense and think they can be really good, maybe even elite, but it’s not going to take seven days from now until someone drops over 20 on us. Don’t forget 03 had some insane defensive lineman and a few all Americans in the secondary. We have really good players but not to that extent.

better? based on what? 2003 and 2011 were great legendary defenses.
similar stats.
2007 and 2019 were good enough to win a natty.
2003 had the best d line ever at LSU.

I think the pieces and talent is there but damn, need to see some play on the field before speculating further.

Hell, given the way football has changed over the past 20+ years, consistently keeping teams under 20 would be a huge accomplishment for ANY defense!

As good as 2003 or better? Very few defenses anywhere have ever been that good. I'd just be happy with an above-average D which I think this D could be based on the depth from the portal transfers and returning players like Weeks, Perkins, etc. I expect a good, play-making D. We'll see pretty quickly what we have starting on Saturday.

Yeah it took Venables years to leave Clemson. Maybe he just wants to be DC. Lot less headache and still pays well.
