Anyone Familiar with Montreal Airport?

I have to fly up to Lab City in a few weeks for work. We are flying into Montreal to catch a PAL airlines flight at 3 PM. Our options are as follows:
1. Fly with delta airlines, land at 1:38, and try to get through customs, security, and walk through airport to catch next flight in about an hour and a half.
2. Fly with American, have a 30 min layover in Philly, and land in Montreal at about 12:30 Pm
3. Fly into Montreal on Monday and spend the night there and catch the flight the following day. I don’t really want to fly up a day early but will if needed
What is your best recommendation?

Does PAL Airlines interline with Delta and/or American? If yes I'd go with the Delta option.
If not I'm overnighting in Montreal.

After googling, no they do not interline with either. Is an hour and a half layover just too short to make it work to go through customs, security again, and walk to next terminal?

No. But if Delta or American ends up delayed and you miss your connection to Labrador, PAL nor Delta/American have any responsibility to get you there as you no-showed for your flight.
And if you have checked bags you'd have to fully recheck them in, likely.

I've never been to Canada, but out of the options you described, I'd do the night before in Montreal. I've been burned by tight layovers before.

If you've *ever* been arrested (for anything), expect extra time to be taken getting into Canada. In addition, be prepared to be questioned about what meetings you are attending when, and what the subjects are. That happened to me in Montreal, but not in Winterpeg. I've been stopped at transit in Toronto for 20 minutes for an international connection where I wasn't actually entering Canada over things like this (not compared to the 3 hours in Winterpeg the first time.)
