quote:quote:
Abandoned by his father to a troubled single mother; eventually raised by grandparents. He is then recruited from an Ivy league law school by shadow figures, a specific billionaire and a network of interests. He changes his name, writes a book about his life story, and with the support of the aforementioned – who eventually pays for a strategic campaign, becomes a Senator for 2 years before being quickly elevated into position in the White House.
Many people reading that paragraph are familiar with the life story of Barack Hussien Obama. However, that paragraph is not describing Obama, that paragraph describes James Donald Bowman, aka J.D. Vance.
On one side, we have an emotionally constructed political figure for the left. On the other side, we see an emotionally constructed political figure for the right. Each person, each emotional narrative, carrying the specific nuances to appeal to their audience; both follow the same playbook.
J.D. Vance was born James Donald Bowman in Middletown, Ohio (August 2, 1984). He then changed his name to James David Bowman. He then changed his name to James David Hamel. Eventually, in 2014, notably after Yale Law School (class of 2013, and after marrying his wife Usha, now age 30, he changed his name to write a book.
It was 2014, that’s when J.D. Vance was born.
Will JD Vance's Tech Bros. backing hurt him for the '28 presidential race?

Vance 2028 and nobody else

quote:
He was born James Donald Bowman in Middletown, Ohio, on Aug. 2, 1984, his middle and last names the same as his biological father, Donald Bowman
quote:
When he was about 6, his mother, Beverly, married for the third time. He was adopted by his new stepfather, Robert Hamel, and his mother renamed him James David Hamel.
quote:
When his mother erased Donald Bowman from his and her lives, the adoption process also erased the name James Donald Bowman from the public record
quote:
I shared a name with no one I really cared about (which bothered me already), and with Bob gone, explaining why my name was J.D. Hamel would require a few additional awkward moments,” he writes in “Hillbilly Elegy.” “Yeah, my legal father’s last name is Hamel. You haven’t met him because I don’t see him. No, I don’t know why I don’t see him. Of all the things that I hated about my childhood, nothing compared to the revolving door of father figures.” So he decided to change his name again, to Vance — the last name of his beloved Mamaw, the grandmother who raised him.

I have never liked his fake Appalachia shtick.
As someone from Appalachia, he isn’t a hillbilly.

Why did he change his name so many times?

Don’t know. I didn’t even know he did it so often.

I don't believe there would be much difference between a DeSantis, Rubio or Vance presidency but I do trust Ron's instincts a little more than Rubio and Vance because of Ron's track record as governor of Florida. With that said Rubio has really impressed since his Secretary of State appointment.

Probably some weird branding thing. And might draw some parallels to Barack Obama who was enrolled in school as Barry Soetoro.

J.D. Vance's name changes are connected to his difficult childhood and family history. He was born James Donald Bowman, but his parents divorced when he was a toddler. His mother later remarried, and her third husband, Bob Hamel, adopted Vance. At this point, his name was changed to James David Hamel, reportedly to remove his biological father's name and to preserve his childhood nickname, J.D.
?He went by James David Hamel for over two decades, including during his time in the U.S. Marine Corps. However, as an adult, he felt he had no connection to the Hamel name, particularly after his mother and stepfather divorced. He was primarily raised by his maternal grandparents, James and Bonnie Vance, whom he deeply admired.
?In 2013, before he graduated from Yale Law School, he legally changed his name to Vance, honoring his grandparents and the family that had raised him. He wrote in his memoir, "Hillbilly Elegy," that the change gave him "the same name as the family to which I belonged." He has also since dropped the periods from his initials, now writing his name as "JD Vance."

JD seems lab grown. The comp is Obama. The Obama of the right, per the article in the OP.

That's my main concern about Vance. He seems to be a construction of tech oligarchs to do their bidding.
And their bidding isn't exactly in line with the desires of the general population or humanity for that matter.

But now you know the correct record.
So.....

My concern is their views or stance on mass deportation and immigration.
I support a 100% moratorium on all immigration. I 100% support mass deportation.
I do not support H1-B visas and I am afraid that Vance and Rubio would be lax on immigration. I think that the tech Bros would get Vance to push H1-B visa's
BDR's record is solid. He has proven where he stands and what he will do.

You are right.
But DeSantis and Rubio won't be immune to the tech oligarch's influence either.

That's a good point.
JD would be really open to the H1B visa program.

quote:His story is not rare. I have a very good friend who was placed in a similar circumstance. His dad and mom divorced after his sister was born. Mom remarried, had another daughter with this husband. Mom decides everyone in the house needed the same last name, so she changed her oldest kid's name to that of the new step-father. Mom divorces him, now my friend has the last name of some dude that is not bloold-related and not in the picture. So in the 11th grade, my friend goes back to court and changes his last name back to his original name.
No, I don’t know why I don’t see him. Of all the things that I hated about my childhood, nothing compared to the revolving door of father figures.”
He's an extremely successful attorney for a major defense contractor now with an accounting degree and a tax law degee from UF.

Some of y'all just want to see things that aren't there. JD Vance is self made. Defied all odds stacked against him, used tools available like the military to get his initial education, and parlayed that into an Ivy League law degree, where if you stand out, people with means notice.

let me help you ronbots understand something in horse racing parlance rom's 2024 campaign wasn't even an also ran, it was a scratch.
that's the worst showing since fred thompson, tim pawlenty and scott walker all supposed potential front runners all went nowhere.
when rom is term limited out of politics he's going to need to find a new job. pawlenty is a great analogy after his political career tim started a PAC can you even recall it's name? it was called the freedom first PAC and it went defunct. maybe he can write a book a lot of unemployed politicians write books!
