There’s OLED, QLED, 4K, 8K.

Don’t want to spend more than $1K and looking for a 70 inch.

What should I get?

Go to Best Buy. Look at each type of TV, decide which type and brand you like the best. I don't know if BB does the thing of cranking the settings on their display TVs, but if they do it to one, they'll do it to all of them in that price range. BB doesn't have a single TV that's 70" over $830, and there are only eight different ones listed on the website.

Get OLED. Blacks will be perfect with great contrast. I'd go with a Sony Bravia XR or Samsung S90D

-Where will the tv be located?
-Will there be direct sunlight on the tv?
-Is the room bright or dark?
-What content are you watching on the tv?
-Are you using something like an Apple TV or Roku with it or do you want to use apps on the tv?

Measure the viewing distance from your normal seat to the screen. Now measure your screen diagonally. In the store, stand the same distance from the screen, and see which one looks the best. If your TV is not sitting in a tight cabinet, go up one size and see which one looks best to your eye, and get that one.

Understand that not all these display TVs are 'set up' for optimum viewing by the store, but you can judge pretty well anyway.

Don't be fooled by the splendidly sharp 4K pictures!! They are running video files produced just for the showroom. It will be years before you will be getting 4K streams like that into your home TV. Rig for Standard HD for the next 5 years.

For me, I tend to go with LGs first and Samsung second. This after seeing LG worldwide in hotels seeing heavy use each day. If I were a rich baller, I would go with Sony, but that's Michael Jackson money there. Maybe one day. That said, the TCLs that Walmart sells have come a long way in picture quality and longevity.

QLED is probably what you'll want. You won't get an OLED for under a grand.

QLED = quantum dot

OLED = your cell phone (perfect contrast), but more expensive.

I purchased an LG C5 77” from Costco and am waiting for it to be delivered. I did a lot of research and found many sites where it was rated as the top overall OLED. Sony, Samsung, and LG OLEDs all had great pictures. I was leery of Samsung because I read a lot of negative reviews relating to power board problems in the larger TVs. All my current TVs are Samsungs.

I used Rtings.com to compare brands and models. They really break down the various performance areas of the TVs and show the actual test results as well as providing a brief summary.

The G5 is ‘better’ than the C5 but costs almost twice as much.

same boat here we'll get some variant of OLED - difference between Neo OLED (Samsung) vs QNED (LG) aside from the brand?
