We rely heavily on oil and gas here in Louisiana for jobs and tax revenue etc and that is great but this brought up a thought that I have always been confused with.

We in Louisiana deal with the pollution, high rate of cancer, risk of explosions, and the pure ugliness of plants. We risk oil spills and environmental disasters etc.

My Question: how in the hell do we all pay the same or even more at the pump than neighboring states? We have some gas stations owned by the refinery's such as Marathon, Shell, etc where the gas is pumped directly to them next to the refineries. How has our politicians not negotiated lower gas prices. There is little to no transportation cost. I drove to Florida recently and the gas was actually cheaper. How is that possible and how do we allow that to happen?

Want to spur the biggest economic surge in this state in history. Pass a damn law that every damn oil refinery that we have to deal with has to sell us gas at a discount.

There are several components that go into the price of gasoline. Transportation is only one component.

For example Colonial Pipeline:

The transportation component is going to be approximately the same for the people that live near the pipeline.

We used to go fishing near Texas City, TX, there's several oil refineries in the area. Valero, Marathon

It was always comical that the closer you got to where they made it the more expensive gas was.

makes zero sense

100% wrong on every point.

There is NO Cancer Alley, 100% fake news. Most of the sugar plantations were sold in the 1950's and 1960's to chemical companies. Much of that being farmed today is still owned by them. The plantations had gone broke.

Oil leaks have always been a thing, before drilling for oil. They are natural and how much of the oil was discovered. The most prolific field per surface acre was discovered when water wells were drilled for cattle. The water tasted like "kerosene". Today, that water is clean now that all the recoverable oil is gone.

Taxes on gasoline is what makes it more expensive. There are no pipelines to gas stations except one that I know of in New Mexico which used to sell 4,000 Barrels of diesel per day. The refinery was closed in 2020. Gasoline was delivered by truck those several hundred yards.

The high rates of cancer in Louisiana, especially south louisiana, is due to lifestyle. Eating unhealthy foods, high rates of smoking, alcoholism, people not getting preventative healthcare etc. There's a reason hospitals in south Louisiana perform the most liver transplants in the country.

Louisiana is a colony whose resources are extracted for the benefit of the nation. Louisiana gets the low-paying jobs and consequences of production while all the profits go out of state to corporate headquarters.

But we're satisfied with that. As long as there are jobs, we will have truck nuts, and that's all that matters.

Meanwhile Corporate is laughing their asses off at us rubes.
