I remember the old folks sipping on that in Blind River swamp while blasting mallards. That was long ago and gone forever. Good times.

where are you getting wild cherries this time of year? i have dozens of cherry trees but they ripen in the early spring. by the way, wild cherry is the single most productive host tree you can have if you want more butterflies in your yard

Believe it or not I got frozen dark pitted cherries. 1/3 cup sugar in mason jar 1cup cherries and a cinnamon stick. Cover in bourbon. Been sitting a month. Took a little nip and it was great. Gonna be warm in the blind this year

By wild cherry do you mean black cherry? I have some small ones in my yard but I never see a single cherry. They fruit in the spring?

yes, Black Cherry (Prunus serotina). Native tree. It flowers very early spring then fruits…small red/black cherries. If yours are young, give them time it takes about 8-10 years to flower. Beautiful trees.

the only downside is that the birds shite the seeds out and seemingly every single one will sprout, so I have them coming up all over in my wooded areas

the wood is also highly prized for furniture. And as noted above, many butterflies use the trees as a host. If anyone wants to add wild cherry to their yard (and you should), hit me up and I’ll dig up some seedlings
