Looking to go in October for 3 nights. We have been once before with kids. I wanted this trip to be more fun, possibly check out a couple bars with good views. We will be flying into LGA around midnight. Is it safe to just grab a hotel right by there for the one night?

Where would you suggest staying the other nights? Any other suggestions are welcome!

If you are only going for three nights I would spend all of them in the city, even with your late arrival. You are already awake so its best to get to the city and checked in that way you don't have to spend the next day waiting to check in to a second hotel. I always use Dial 7 for airport transfers.

Weather in October should be great, plenty of rooftops to check out.
If you haven't booked a hotel the Hyatt Centric Midtown has a cool rooftop. The Ainsworth in Midtown is another rooftop bar worth checking out

I haven't been to EDGE yet, but I hear it is pretty cool

No, NYC has great transit but arriving at midnight just get a car (uber/yft is fine) to your hotel once you land.

For 3 nights anywhere in midtown, closer to subway stop preferred, some of the many NYC threads on this board have good hotel recs.

I typically stay in the Chelsea/Flatiron areas. Tons of good bars around there and some rooftop ones with great views. Plenty of subway lines in that area as well to move you around town.

The Renaissance Chelsea is a great property and I stay there for work a lot when it's in policy. If you want to go a little cheaper, I like the Aloft Chelsea as well.

You'll get sticker shock looking at NYC hotels these days.

At that time of night, you can get from LGA to midtown in about 25mins. Use Dial 7. Definitely wouldn’t want to do the two hotels and waste time with that. You’ll wake up the next day and be ready to venture out for the day.

Chelsea is great area. I just returned last night after a week near Times Square @ west 42nd near port authority subway for easy underground transport.

Definitely just get a car and go the hotel in your desired area. There will be little traffic, and the drive through the city is pretty at night with everything lit up. You will be so happy to wake up and get going the next day without relocating.

I stayed there a few months ago at the Delta and found it to be off the beaten path.

Last time the SO and I went we did a day walk through the upper east side down through Lincoln Sqaure and Hells Kitchen neighborhoods and it was one of the best days of day drinking ever. Enjoy.

If you are there on a Saturday be sure to catch the LSU game at Legends by the Empire State Building.
