Baws, does a hot work permit need to have fire watch baws trained on actual fire watch? I called out my employer today over the radio, because they needed bodies. My training is always been, those , who are doing the hot work, bring in thier own to do fire watch. Answer? Thanks for reading.

In my experience, the company doing the hot work provides the fire watch.

Yes, It’s complicated. To boil it down, one must learn how to identify flames and smoke.

Thanks. Thats what I said. Appreciate your quick response. The company i am with portrays me as an outsider, which the mentality is "we have done it always like that" i called them out in a corporate safety meeting earlier today

It’s been a while but we always had everybody trained up to be a fire watch just so we didn’t have to wait on that bs.

Thank you. The company who is doing the actual hot work should provide "compitent" workers. If they aren't available, the site, in which the location of the job, needs to provide competent workers

Gotta have a fire watch. There should be a spot on the permit to put the watch's name. As a mechanic, we normally work in pairs so one of us just puts our name there and we watch our own area.

Smoke is the absence of fire.
