Please explain why this season will be any different than the previous 10+ seasons. Please explain why Allar is going to all of a sudden become Joe Burrow. Please explain to me why their receivers are going to suddenly become All Americans. Please explain why James Franklin will suddenly do something that he’s never come close to doing.

Make it make sense.

They got to the semifinals last year and return most of their key players, not hard to understand.

They recruit well and play 3 (current) ranked teams for their season, they can miss the championship game and still make the playoffs with one win (Indiana) over a ranked opponent.

Brutal schedule

They were one drive away from the title game last year and pretty much return their entire team minus one defensive lineman. They also hired away coaches from Ohio State and have a schedule with only two tough games on it.

The new playoff format was almost custom made for PSU, never good enough to crack to top 4, but always creeping in the top-10. Just need a good break with the bracket like last year and they are playing for a title.

I mean I’m not picking Penn State to win it all, but he was in the semi-final game last year (27-24 to Notre Dame)

Penn State is in a better position this year than the other semi-final teams from last year.

At worst, they will finish 10-2 & back in the playoffs

They finish with at least two losses.

And can still be national champs or close to it losing two games.

one of the reasons LSU fans are confident is because their QB comes back for year two. Allar is in year 3 at PSU and has the most experience of any QB on a good team

1. Drew Allar can be added to the long list of underwhelming Penn St QBs.

2. I don’t really understand the James Franklin bashing. The guy seems to always have Penn State in the mix, which they hadn’t been in for quite some time. He’s won the Fiesta, Rose, Cotton, and Peach Bowls in his tenure, close loss in the semis last year.

They play Oregon at home, very winnable game but they will get bludgeoned at the Horseshoe only to drop 5 spots and still be earmarked for the playoffs

LSU fans seem to forgot how mediocre burrow was his first year there.

They are missing that beast of a TE.

No chance Drew Allar magically turns into Burrow in year 3

29 total TDs in 13 games (2023)
30 total TDs in 16 games last year

I’d predict about ~30 TDs this year

Like last year their schedule is generally pretty much crap. They only got to the semis last year because the first two rounds they played crap teams because of how the bracket was set up.

They'll probably lose two games again and make the playoffs.

This is the logic and the why

My counterpoint is that they had the easiest possible bracket imaginable last year - that won't happen every time

It's all media manufactured garbage. There's about 4 teams with the depth to compete for a natty and Penn State ain't one

They got to the final four and return a lot of players. It's not hard to see why there's some hype. Their roster is loaded.

His record in games against top 10 teams is 3-17, and he's 1-12 in his last 13 top 10 games

His team is literally almost always beat every team you should, lose to every team you should. He hasn't "elevated" a good team to great or a really good team to title worthy.

If it isn't this year I don't know when it would be next

The first reply nailed it:

Also, they apparently had a nice haul in the transfer portal at wore out and the camp reports are all indicating that most of the wr’s they brought in are performing really well
