OK, it's time to nail down starting ol and begin building chemistry!

The news of 5-star freshman Curne practicing at right tackle is exciting, but also very concerning. Curne came in as No. 1 IOL in the country and suddenly being moved outside to a position he hasn't played less than two weeks before a huge game against Clemson is puzzling. Clemson comes into the game with one of the best DLs in the country that is led by Peter Woods, who may go No.1 overall in upcoming draft.
I understand competition is good and iron sharpens iron, but at some point, the OL has to begin building trust and chemistry as a unit and that's hard to do with constantly moving parts. The staff needs to pick 5 based on their performances thus far and begin building chemistry and trust and that's tough to do when you have no clue who is going to be next to you.
We're not opening up against Army or Alabama State and this Clemson team may be the most talented Clemson team in many, many years, led by two players Woods and Klubnik that may go 1 and 2 in the upcoming draft.

I'm sure your assessment is better than the staff. Have you tried calling Coach Kelly?

Pay a little more attention.
1. He's been playing left tackle all camp. The switch from left to right isn't that big of a deal.
2. Weston Davis eventually came back in with the 1s before the 15 minute media portion was even over.
3. Brian Kelly said maybe 4 days ago that competition will continue throughout the roster. He mentioned that last year there was not much competition at all, which led to a lack of sharpness from starters. The idea is that players continuing to fight for a starting position will lead to more engaging practices, and I find that hard to disagree with.

I'm looking forward to the media silence so rantards can shut the frick up about what Jacque Doucet or Scone saw in his 15 min portion of practice.

Recruiting services labeled him as IOL. If they really knew how to evaluate kids they would probably be working for a college or NFL team. Our staff obviously sees him on the outside and always has been since he got to campus

And once he gets beat, does a standing back flip to get back in position for a critical block, you’ll say he was off balance, didn’t stick the landing with two arms up, and still blast on him and the coaches!!
I trust the coaching staff more than anyone on here or the media. Their jobs 100% depend on how this team does!!
He was a 4/5* for a reason!!

Hopefully the OP stressed the importance of winning this opener.

IF he was one of the top tackles in the country, why wouldn't he be able to handle RT if we started 2 freshman 3 years ago at tackle?

He played tackle in high school and has been practicing at tackle since he got here. Sit this one out slugger

They run so many reps in practice that they have to run people in and out. you can be there giving the five who will start in Clemson plenty of time together. They are not stupid.

As good as Campbell and Jones were as true freshmen, we started them both because we literally didn’t have anything else. All but three holdovers from the 21 OL ended up in the G5 or lower, and they were all inside OL (Turner, Dellinger and Martinez, who never started here). Cam Wire started that FSU game at RT and ended up at fricking Tulane.
We may have a reworked OL, but we don’t have that issue this year. If Curne is the best man and earns the spot, so be it. But the cupboard isn’t bare anymore and if he isn’t 100% ready, he doesn’t HAVE to start game 1. And most true freshmen aren’t ready right away, at least not to be SEC or Big 10 starters.

Yes but the problem here is that he was rated as the top IOL and that is the position on LSUs Oline that has struggled mightily for most of this fall camp so a far, not tackle. I wished BK would at least try Curne at left guard because Chester and Mubenga might not be able to hack it. Chester for dang sure.

Practice isn't remotely close to a real game experience. When you talk about being a successful OL at the highest level, it takes a lot of time to build that trust and chemistry. Any decent OL has to function as one and that's impossible when you have so many moving parts.
The great OLs communicate without even talking because they've played so much together, they know each other tendencies and it may be a tap on the leg or shoulder pad or some kind of hand gesture and that's all that's needed. It's like they create their own silent language that only they understand and that only comes with time working together building chemistry and trust.
If you took a less talented OL,but they had great chemistry and trust, against an OL loaded with 5 stars but don't work as a unit, the less talented unit is going to outperform the talented group every time. OL is the one position group that has to work together to be successful and with LSU still trying to figure out a starting five less than 2 weeks away from a tough road against one of the best defenses in the country, is not a recipe for success.

How do you know this? I bet you’re wrong. I bet CBK has no doubt who the starting five are, and I bet he’s known for at least a couple of weeks.
He knows better than you and me how much time they need to jell, and you can bet he’s getting them that time.

He should plug in where we are weakest and that is LG. He does not have tackle skills. He is a bull that could plow when needed at LG and at least not get knocked back into Nuss' lap like Mubenga.

Interesting that Bordelon isn’t good enough to beat out these younger players.
