Buffalo River. Great place to tent camp and canoe down the river. Best time to go is early June.

not interested in kayaking or canoeing. Hiking and camping is what I'm interested in

I hope you aren’t considering this before October…the woods may look pretty right now but you will meet and greet every chigger and tick in the state before the fall

Otherwise Arkansas has the best state parks you will find. Research the ones you like and go there

Check out Petit Jean State park. It has a nice campground with public showers. Has one 12 mile hike, but is located near the Ouachita National Forest. The forest has some long hikes with campgrounds, but no showers. Fall or Spring are best times to hike. Very hot in the summer and can get very cold in the winter. Was hiking the area in the 90"s (Thanksgiving weekend) when a ice storm hit the area.

There are several trails between Lake Ouachita State Park and Brady Mountain Recreational Area. We stayed at Brady Mountain in a tent and the lot was decent. Power, water, and a grill pit at each campsite. The bathhouses were good, the shower was hot and full pressure.

Buffalo River is still a great option for hiking and camping. Lots of trails in the area, including the Buffalo River Trail, Hemmed-In Hollow, Lost Valley, Whitaker Point (Hawksbill Crag), Glory Hole (if there is a rain), etc.. etc..
