I know technology is changing at a rapid speed. With all of the advances in gps, is there a better, cheaper version that’s capable? Want to start letting my blood dog start tracking off leash.
Thanks in advance

Was going to suggest what my friend uses in MS. He is a professional tracker. Had no idea it costs this much though.

I have a garmin alpha 300i. If you gonna spend that much money might as well get the latest and greatest…..for now ha. I use this for my Catahoula blood tracking dog and to keep with my brothers hounds when I occasionally hunt with them. There are cheaper options around but this is a situation IMO you very much get what you pay for.

I just purchased a Dogtra Pathfinder 2 mini for my small beagle for $429.

It’s the only tracking collar I’ve ever had but I highly recommend it.

I have a buddy who uses the Garmin units and says they are great too.

Another vote for the Garmin. Works great with the dog and I like that I can use it for in reach as well when I go offshore and in the back country.

Thats why I went with the 300i vs the 300. Use it offshore as a backup to my PLB and of course for texting out there on occasion.

We just tried a Halo collar- the app is cool, and it's pretty damn accurate- buuuuttttt.......the second day in Grand Isle saltwater killed it.

Impressively enough, they automatically sent a replacement- the app knew the collar failed, so we'll see if this was just a fluke or not.

That's on the cheap side. Track and train with a 300 handheld will run $1200 or so for a lab or bird dog.
