Curious to know, who has done it yet this year as it is quite hot outside right now and I know the snakes are everywhere.

Thinking about making a trip up this coming weekend.

I bought one of those coolers that are a portable ac for early scouting trips and they work wonders. I just wear shorts and flip flops and run the hose under my shirt.

I also spray to keep the grass dead around the blinds and park 20 feet away in the brush. I have spots I cut out and keep trimmed for to hid my rides in the brush really close so I’m in flip flops hog hunting and scouting trips. I’ll walk in if I’m hunting something specific during hunting season or park further away.

Got out yesterday morning on a piece of property that I have permission to hunt and put out a couple cameras. Walked 3 miles, only saw one cottonmouth. Area 6.

Got a picture of a nice 8 walking a game trail right at dusk

Older I get I find it useless before mid to late September

Our bucks completely change patterns around that time. Their bachelor groups and post bachelor group activities are nothing alike

I don't use cameras, but I usually start scouting about mid September.

I started scouting right when the season ended, and I've made scouting trips every month since then. I've ramped it up over the last month and have been scouting quite a bit... all public land.

Yes, it's hot and muggy but I start at 7am and I'm done by 11am at the latest. It's been productive and I've found good sign and some decent bachelor groups. I'll go even more often starting in September so I can narrow down my opening day spot. As far as snakes go, they are definitely out and about now. I ran across 4 snakes on my last trip, with one of them being a cottonmouth. The others were a water snake, a kingsnake and a racer. None of them paid me any mind and just slithered away.

Nice. I see some promising spots on public that I e-scouted. Can we use cameras on wma's or did they ban them?

I’d like to walk the woods but it’s just not worth it between the spider webs, mosquitoes and snakes. Nothing worse than sweating your butt off and walking face first into a spider web.

Scouting consists of mowing roads and lanes, looking for cross traffic and putting out cameras with a sack of corn or mineral block. If it’s not a heavily trafficked area; the pictures disappear after the bait is gone.

I’ll scout mid season but that probably pushes some deer out. Don’t listen to me though, I see plenty of shooters on camera but rarely see them in a stand.

I hunt one WMA and 2 NWRs. No cameras allowed on the NWRs, but cameras are allowed year-round on the WMA I hunt, with the exception of turkey season. I can’t say if that’s how it is for all of them, though.

Thermacell and Off are my best friend. Scouting and being in the woods is my therapy. There’s nothing like walking within 10 feet of a couple twin fawns like I did a couple days ago. Also, putting eyes on bachelor group bucks and then using that intel to harvest one on public land during the season is awesome. I was able to get 3 bucks last season, and all were from different bachelor groups I found in August and September. The kills were made in November and January. To me, the preseason scouting is well worth it.

I pick out a few spots on public land that I want to scout and just wait to scout them while squirrel hunting opening weekend. Too many snakes where I hunt to go before then.

Tons of spiders where I’m at. I carry one of those golf trainer fiberglass alignment sticks to knock down webs. Couple that with some snake bite resistant boots and you’re ready to roll.

They’re there all year. It’s where they live.

I got out a lease last year and was getting stands out of the woods this past weekend.

The banana spiders were everywhere. Left the little guys alone. Cool looking spiders for sure

I'm in area 6 also. put a camera out about a month ago. i'm inside the MS levee and we had too much water before then. The deer have moved back in and I'm getting lots of pictures over a salt block. does still pregnant so glad they got to move back in and can have fawns on home turf.
