Interesting '27 QB tidbit

For those that believe landing 2 of Houston, Nuss, Haven and Ziegler is realistic or cost efficient.
This is the afterthoughts range.
quote:
As Benton (La.) four-star quarterback Malachi Zeigler moves closer toward a decision, SMU and Michigan have overtaken Baylor and Mississippi State as front-runners for the signal-caller. We’re told the Wolverines have made a sizable NIL play with Zeigler’s camp, which — among other reasons — has Michigan positioned well with the touted passer. Sources estimate Zeigler’s asking price to be between $400,00 and $800,000 as a freshman.

At this point I hope to land 1.

I feel like we never went all on one guy. Started out with Haven, got too expensive. Went to Nuss and got in a good position but tried to stay in touch with Haven which lead to UF overtaking us for his #1 spot. Now we are Haven or bust because everyone else seems like they have moved on from LSU. Great if we land him but catastrophic if we miss.

I really hope that Hurley stays like the plan is..

It's always a crapshoot with high school kids. We just need to pick our best option and pull the trigger. BTW, I've always thought Malachi may end up being at or near the top when the cream settles.

Look at 2026 and 2027 teams that have got a qb tho. Most of the heavy hitters already have their guy. Let Michigan land Zeigler and we really are in prime position for Haven. Ohio St and Texas a&m already got a guy. So does Texas, Tenn, and UGA. Haven could come down to an LSU vs Bama race.

And yet, there were a bunch of people naìve enough to believe the house settlement will do away with collectives and pay for play.

I’m from Benton and I’ll say with this from my own experience. Zeigler is a camp product, because what you see on Friday night does not scream “4 star”. Yes, he has a good body and a nice arm, but the on field production doesn’t merit the ranking. As the local kid, I’d love to see him succeed, and hopefully the new coach helps him develop.

I cant really comment one way or the other because Zeigler is the one that I know the least about.

I live north of 220 but haven’t seen him play. Everyone I’ve talked to has said the exactly same thing. Said he is a good kid and they hope he does well, but they are stunned he is getting these type of offers.

Why did we not just start with Nuss? Seems like it would be the easiest QB recruiting ever. Sloan is such. Liability at QB recruiting

I don't understand this??

That’s quite a gap in asking

At this point, I would be cool with just landing Colton.
Hopefully, Garrett will stay healthy all season so MVB can redshirt. Add a portal QB with at least 2+ years of eligibility left... let MVB, Hurley, and the portal QB battle it out in the spring. The staff will have to keep the QB race open throughout the summer/fall camp in order to keep one of the guys from jumping in the Spring portal.
Teams are gonna offer a ton a money and Day 1 starter opportunity for Haven if he's a Spring early enrollee.

I’ve seen him play several times, I think Benton’s former coach was probably the worst coach in the area. He did a ton of stuff that made zero sense. I think Malicah makes a huge jump this year but he may have the worst wr corp in 4 or 5a. They need a few guys to step up on the team besides him. He was extremely close to transferring to Calvary this offseason. If things don’t improve around him this year I look for him to be over there next year.

I want Haven. Would love to see a local 5 star QB take us to a Natty.
Seems like a good kid in all of his interviews

Well, here you go:
quote:
The other quarterback to know for the Wolverines is Benton (La.) High School signal caller Malachi Zeigler. Michigan has also been making quite an impression on the Louisiana native recently. They are trending quickly.
“He’s a young man that’s as coveted as any passer in the country,” Wiltfong said of Zeigler. “He also camped at Michigan this summer, did a fantastic job and shot up the Wolverines’ board, earned his offer from coach Moore, Lindsey and company. He too might be nearing a college decision. SMU’s in there among other programs that’ve done a good job with Zeigler. He sees a great fit for himself at Michigan.”
There is some speculation that Zeigler could be making a college decision sometime in the near future. That quarterback spot in the 2027 class for Michigan could be coming down to whoever wants to commit first. As of today, it appears Zeigler has the intention of making that decision before Bourque.
At 6-2 and 209 pounds, Zeigler is a very intriguing dual threat option at quarterback. During his sophomore season in 2024, he managed to throw for 997 yards and six touchdowns, while also rushing for 555 yards and six more scores as a runner. Zeigler is expecting a huge jump as a junior as the full time starter.
Despite that low production, Zeigler is well thought of by various recruiting platforms. He currently ranks as the No. 156 overall player and No. 12 quarterback for the 2027 recruiting class on the 247 Sports Composite ranking.
