All I see on the majority of new half ton pickups are plastic bullshite bumpers that are gonna break when you put them to work.

Sucks.

I agree. Trucks need steel bumpers with a step ledge.

The plastic you see is called a bumper cover. Behind the bumper cover is a steel bumper.

But anyway, I would prefer external steel bumpers on trucks again.

Pretty sure it's steel underneath the plastic.

Truck bumpers have gone nowhere but downhill since the last dealer-stamped bumper rolled off the assembly line.

Rear bumpers on the 60’s pickups were optional equipment. You paid extra for the bumper that came with your dealers name stamped across the back.
How is that for an advertising gimmick?

Thank EPA mandates on mpg. There are a ton of aftermarket steel bumpers available for every model of truck.

Just a guess. But the plastic etc ones would absorb a wrecks energy better than a steel bumper

Grenadiers come with steel bumpers front and rear.

Pedestrian safety and aero are the primary reasons I believe they are all plastic.

No kidding? Didn’t know that.

Those were also the trucks with a gun rack in the back window and graphics of a buck standing at a tree line sprawled across the entire rear window. And those were common in every high school student parking lot. Better times, man, better times.

How exactly are you putting your bumper to work?

When i was in car sales in the early 90's, some trucks came in with no bumper and you could pick the bumper you wanted added to your truck off a display on the showroom floor.

Modern car bumpers allow for crush areas to absorb the energy during an accident or for pedestrians. Much safer for everyone around
