The answer to both is hell yes.

There is no logical reason for us to be in NATO. The whole reason for forming NATO was to keep the USSR at bay. Those times are long gone, but we are still spending a massive amount of money to fund an organization that has little use.

We definitely don't need NATO - the cold war is over.
The ONLY reason we could use being a UN member is for trade benefits.

Need to just rename it to North American Treaty Organization & tell everyone on the other side of the pond to get out.

The only other North American member is one of the most useless and under-funded in the entire alliance.....

Sigh.
How is it that people still do not know how "NATO funding" works?

Yes to both. The problem with being in NATO is the commitment to Europe. We can still help Europe but without a commitment. Let's say Russia decides to invade Germany. NATO comes to us and says: 'America, ya gotta help us out on this one!'
We then send our best Indian (dot) ambassador to negotiate with them saying: "Well, I tell you what I can do...."

The US would be better off severing its close ties to Israel.

One reason we were always so heavy into NATO is that Germany is the powerhouse of Europe but was restricted on what it could build militarily. Those days are over now and Germany is all in - in the next 5- 7 years I think we'll see them as the dominant force in NATO and western Europe.

Ive wanted to see the UN bulldozed into Turtle Bay since I read comments from some of their administrators back in the 80’s. It was obvious they fancied themselves as some kind of world government. Ted Turner’s demands that, and I quote” America must pledge allegiance to the United Nations” turned me against Him. Guess Jane pegged him so hard it damaged his fricking mind.

NATO - it's absurd that we would go to war to protect countries that don't have freedom of speech. Protect a state that doesn't allow criticism of their immigration program. Ridiculous.
