Need some recommendations for a guy. They all seem to be short and tight these days.

A 9” inseam ends 3-4” above my knee

yeah, inseams depend on the individual. Agree that long shorts look sloppy, but the shorty short, nut hugger look is as bad, if not worse.

I went cheap and got some Amazon essentials golf shorts and they fit great, comfortable, good length.. to be determined on how well they hold up.

Are you looking for regular cotton shorts or some "performance/golf" shorts that are more breathable? I like the Cremieux shorts from Dillards and for performance ones I just get whatever 15 dollar pair they are selling at Costco/Sam's club.
