recently booked with Southwest, first time with new policy changes

Having the Chase SWA Priority credit card helps cut costs. I'm still on the $149 annual fee until it renews at $229 later this year, but booking for 3 passengers and 1 lap child, it saved me money on bags both ways. I would need to book two separate family trips to get my full money's on this card, which will likely happen in the future.
The phone app menu feels a bit easier to navigate, but it's a negligible difference. Fare options also do not seem that big of a deal. I just need to get my family on a plane and into seats since the flight is barely 2 hours long. Booked with points, but the dollar amount for the flight was still pretty reasonable compared to past flights to our destination.
Just curious, has anyone else noticed any difference in service and comfortability since these changes? I had flown Spirit a couple times due to the costs being better at the time and even though the seats weren't the best, I don't have much care for my overall comfort on a flight as I just put my head down and play Sudoku for 90+ minutes on these flights. Really just looking to see if the seating adjustments are more noticeable than I would expect.

You're not wrong. If I had to fly with family on any other airline, I would end up having to buy bags anyway and the cost would probably add up to more than what I am paying now anyway.

Did you check? People always say "SW is cheaper" but in reality, at least for where I fly to/from it never was. It was all basically about the same price.
The advantage SW had was the bag fees (if you were checking a bag).
So unless they lowered prices as part of these changes and Elliott's hostile take over, they are going to be in line with everyone else.

MSY -> FLL is our once/twice a year trip. I generally spend less time and money driving to MSY and getting to and from FLL than I do flying any airline out of BTR. I prefer nonstops vs. waiting any amount of time at HTX/ATL. These trips will always involve a checked bag and have better departure times compared to BTR and whatever airlines fly out of there when FLL is my destination.
This probably isn't the case for a handful of other destinations. I know that when I flew by myself to PHX, it was cheaper and less time overall to fly out of BTR, but that is the only instance I can recall in the last few years where BTR worked out for me.

I pretty much fly weekly with SW even now. Currently, nothing service wise or seating wise has changed yet. Carry on bags are the only issue that Ive noticed, but being A preferred, it has not affected me. Lots of gate checked bags and more preboarders!

I do the exact same thing. Cheers.

I was on one recently and they were begging people to check their bags at the gate.
Dumb policy change.

Really? I’ve only flown once on SW this year, but that was before the bag changes.
Amazing that pre boards could get any worse than already was.

True, I've seen same number of pre-boarders. And that probably won't change until assigned seating takes affect, or deep breath, or maybe never.
Biggest complaint was those folks took up premium seating, I guess with assigned seats that won't be an issue anymore?

With assigned seating and charging for checked bags, overhead bin space will become more limited and you'll see more pre-boarding.
SW open seating and boarding process was the smoothest in the business even with pre-boarders as those travelers were out of the way.

To your point, as our population continues to age we may see more pre-boarders on all airlines.
My FIL is relatively healthy for 70 but has a foot issue and has trouble standing for long stretches. With the doctors note he will be allowed to pre board every flight from now on, and depending on the distance to the gate he will occasionally require a wheelchair.
