Saints Camp Day 2: Offense Struggles, Defense Brings Fire
Thursday’s practice was fast, physical… and a bit messy for the offense.
Tyler Shough had flashes but couldn’t find a consistent rhythm
Spencer Rattler was steady until a red zone INT to Quincy Riley
Jake Haener dropped a beauty to Juwan Johnson
Brandin Cooks sparked the first camp fight
Bryan Bresee looked sharp as the defensive front dominated
Kendre Miller saw 1st-team reps and ran with purpose
Charlie Smyth went just 2-for-5 in a rough kicking session
The offense isn’t clicking yet, and penalties aren’t helping—but the intensity is building. And with pads coming soon, the real competition is just getting started.

Spencer Rattler worked with the second unit and completed 5-of-7 passes, but most of his success came on short throws to the perimeter. He never quite got into rhythm vertically, and his final rep of the day resulted in an interception in the back corner of the end zone. Rattler explained afterward that he intended to throw the ball away but didn’t put enough on it—rookie Quincy Riley made him pay.

You're right to point out the difference in tone between the summary line and the full paragraph. What I meant by “steady” was that Rattler wasn’t erratic or reckless leading up to the INT, but the offense as a whole (including his rhythm and vertical attack) was clearly off.
He played within structure and made the smart throwaway decision he just didn’t execute it well enough. So “steady until the INT” was more about his composure and control than his overall production. Appreciate you reading closely!

Really hope Miller stays healthy. Between Miller , Devin Neal and A.K. we potentially have a very talented R.B. room if they stay healthy.

100%. Sometimes you even see that manifest early in the season. It takes time to get everything working.
Especially with new coaches and a new offense.
