Kid’s cell phone and plan options

Just talk and text, no smart phone features. What are the cheapest options out there? It’s just something they can have with them and call if needed.

I know it probably costs more, but an Apple Watch from a generation or two ago might be better. Kids leave all kinds of shite behind if it's not attached to them (even teenagers). If you attach the extra device to your existing cell account it's usually between $15-20 a month. You control what apps, if any, show up on the watch, and they get the "Siri, call Uncle JackD" ease.

US Mobile has a stand alone watch plan for $78 a year. I’ve got 4 kids and 3/4 are on US Mobile and have no complaints with the service. It allows us to track them as necessary and get in touch with them when they are running the neighborhood. The biggest issue we have had is with battery life after a couple years. They have the SE2 which you can pick up for less than $250.
