Hyundai Palisade - Opinions from owners?

Reading this older Covid pricing thread, but it is locked.
Previous Thread
Wife's SUV looks to be near death. We just had a Palisade on vacation and really liked it. Kind of surprised by the sticker price (~$40) and currently offering 0%.
Does anyone have any ownership stories good/bad?

Wife drives a 2020 Palisade with I believe the Calligraphy trim level. She travels a lot for work and we have never had an issue with it .

They are popular and the people who have them seem to like them for the first 4-5 years at least. I think Hyundai did a good job with the design and my buddy that has the Kia version likes it.
My $0.02: Kia/Hyundai has a reputation of working very hard to get out of their warranty coverage, so it's not really a selling point to me. Their dealers seem to be a major weak point for the company, but that's negated if your local dealers just happen to not total garbage (they suck in Baton Rouge). And with those risks in mind, their prices are competitive but not aggressive enough for the Palisade to really be a likely choice to me.
And I tend to keep my vehicles a long time, so I'd seriously consider a new Toyota Grand Higlander as the best in class over the Palisade. I'd rather pay a little more and get the Toyota. Or pay a similar amount and get a new Acadia, new Traverse, or the updated Explorer over the Palisade.
The best "deals" right now are probably with the Dodge Durango. Dodge sucks as a brand, but the Durango is very robust design because of how ancient it is and because it's an old Mercedes underneath (with a ZF transmission). It's been static and unchanged for 10+ years, and their powertrains are proven. The VW Atlas is also priced very aggressively as well, and like the Durango it will have older tech and an older interior design that's less appealing than the Hyundai Palisade....but that's to be expected for their pricing.
You might get a deal on a 2025 Palisade too since they are redesigning it next year. I would avoid it unless it's pricing was similar to the aggressively priced Durango or Atlas. I would not choose it if it were the same price as the Acadia, Explorer, or Traverse. I definitely wouldn't touch it for what Toyota dealers are demanding for the Grand Highlander.
It sounds like you found a very good deal on the Hyundai.

I also have a 2020. There was an issue with the engines burning through oil. I just had my engine replaced under warranty at 93,000 miles due to the problem. But I think that has been corrected. Otherwise I love it and had no other issues with it.

We just got the Limited for the wife 6 months ago and she's very pleased. Went with the Limited over the Caligraphy because the minor esthetic differences didn't warrant the higher price tag.
I've driven it a handful of times and it's a pleasure to drive. Roomy and spacious for our family of five. Great on road trips.
So far, no problems. Chose it over the KIA Telluride because she liked "the feel" interior better.

In one of the billions of posts I read elsewhere, I saw someone claiming Hyundai was having to contract out some engine manufacturing in the past because they couldn't keep up, leading to those problems. But now, they are all in-house again. No clue if true.

I have the Sonata SEL Plus, 2023 model, and i've loved it so far. Probably the best compliment i've given to it since having it is it feels a whole lot nicer than the car actually is. Moderately priced but it just feels nicer than that price point.
As to the issues, their like 2016-2020 or so manufacturing ran into a lot of issues I think. I believe most have been corrected since then.
As for SUV's, my wife has the Toyota Rav-4 and loves it. We've had no issues with it either.

Been in a Kia Telluride for about 5 months now and love it. It's basically the same thing as the Palisade but in my opinion looks better

Mrs. Midnight has a high trim Kia Telluride. It is one of the nicest vehicles I have ever driven.
Her criteria was a 3-row SUV (coming from a sedan, she has had 3-row minivan and 3-row SUV in the past). My criteria was NA V6, 8-speed, non-electrical, non-hybrid.
There isn't a 1% difference between Telluride and Palisade.

I've got a 2014 Durango with 165k miles on it. Drivetrain has been a tank, no major issues over the last decade. The inside is basically falling apart at this point but mechanically it's rock solid

I have had a lot of rentals, and drove many vehicles. I also worked adjacent to the car business for an owner and had an office in a dealership for years. Lots of debt and new fancy cars don't tend to impress me. That rental Palisade felt like a million bucks from a tight handling, luxury feel. It shocked me when I looked up the MSRP somewhere winding through the backroads of Maine enjoying the ride.

Won't catch me recommending a Kia/Hyundai for at least a decade. Still way too many problems on recent models to consider anything other than a lease. Plus not so great resale.

Hyundai is very good with design and styling. I’d consider a Palisade if I found one that was discounted the way you did. I rented one a few times and was impressed with how it rode and drove.
If the Hyundai dealers are pricks to you, go to the Honda store and see if your wife likes the Pilot. Honda has one of the best V6 engines made today. It’s too bad the Pilot is so plain looking, but it does ride and drive very well too.

Hyundai still has a lot of powertrain issues. But the Palisade has avoided them. It doesn’t have the Dual Clutch transmission or the terrible NA 4 bangers that Hyundai still cranks out in other models.

They have an active recall on some 2025 models for possible fires
2024 models have a recall for valve spring failures and failure to deploy airbags.
That enough research for now

My bro in law drives one and it's actually pretty nice. I was impressed.

To be fair, seems like most of the big boys have had a lot of 2024 recalls
Seems like it was a bad year, at least for the asian cars. I think Honda had one for like 2M of their 2024 models.

Poor man's Tahoe, but more reliable.

Sounds like a smart man, not a poor man.
The frustrating thing about car shopping is this. After having an F150 with transmission issues. And now this GMC suv with transmission issues. All my previous vehicles have been Ford or GMCs, there isnt a huge clear answer I can pin down. They have been a mixed bag but their fare share of issues in all of them. Lots of millage may vary stories.
I browsed the Toyota for anything close, and the price jumps nearly $20k to scratch a similar vehicle. The resale is greater, but you also pay for that resale up front.
