When LSU won the Natty in 2019 where were we ranked in the Preseason poll to finish in the SEC?

Despite an offseason overhaul, LSU's offense was still inconsistent, finishing seventh in the SEC in scoring, seventh in passing and ninth in total offense. The Tigers hope Ohio State transfer Joe Burrow's performance against UCF -- 394 passing yards with four touchdowns -- is a precursor of things to come.

Was trying to find the answer for you and ran across ESPNs way too early 2019 rankings. They had us at 10 overall. It's insane how much that offense improved in that one year. From 9th in scoring(SEC) to one of the most prolific offenses in college football history.

No, we were not 6th in SEC preseason 2019. We were 4th for SEC with lower odds than what we have this year. We were ranked 6th in the country preseason. 4th SEC. Just like now. And we may be ranked 6th too. Odds were like 10/1 I think 2019 to win SEC preseason. Now it's maybe 7 to 1. So they give us basically 40% better odds now than 2019.

I put 10 bucks at 25 to 1 preseason and another 10 bucks at 22 to 1 after Georgia Southern to win the natty. Online betting wasn’t legal yet so I had to place the bets in Tunica. It was fun cashing those tickets.

The ranking was justified. Our play calling, run game, receivers, and offensive line were putrid the previous year. We made leaps in the off season, massive ones. Instead of 100s of drops in 2018, we were catching everything. The offensive line grew and got better, they were overrated to be called number 1 but they were still top 5 (this is coming from an offensive lineman, just being real). Guice stepped up big time and made a huge difference in the alabama game in particular. Finally, our play calling and offensive plan was leaps and bounds better.

One of the things I said in the 2018-2019 off season was that Joe was a monster, he just has everything working against him. It's a fun narrative that he "woke up" after the crack back but the reality was, Joe was exceptional before that. I was ripping my hair out that season from all the dropped passes, I've never seen a season like that. Someone on the SECr compiled the drops for that season and it didn't have lsu at number 1 and I knew immediately that however they compiled their data was flawed. The balls would just bounce off our receivers hands every damn game, and hardly got open too.

We had a blue chip ratio of 64%, which is not very high, but we had JB and some great receivers. Our D was slighly better than average. Bama had a blue chip ratio in the 80s and we beat them. JB was the team.

it was Clyde but yeah your right about that offseason. I always said the WR turn around from 18-19 was far more drastic than Burrows.
