Practicing using mine before the season starts. I’ve noticed that when I climb, I have tended to “sway” due to gravity pulling me. When I got out of the tree, I noticed that the tree is at an angle almost.

When yall climb, do you normally just pick a tree that is as straight as possible with cover? Or do you climb the tree in the direction gravity would pull you so you’re in tension?

Thanks OB

I try to pick a tree in this order: location, cover, straightness. Saddle setup allows me to get in a variety of different types of trees. And I try to set up based on expected shot location, cover, and or the sun.

As far as the swaying, you can combat that with tether location on the tree. Shifting your tether to the right or left on the tree can help re-center you over your platform. This may mean reversing the direction you wrapped your tether around the tree to get it where you need. If that doesn’t help, shift your whole setup around the tree until you feel centered.

Don’t be afraid to adjust your setup once in the tree. being comfortable will allow you to sit longer.

Thanks man. Some very good advice.

I’ve only used at this one tree thus far. Mainly to get a feel for how to set up and everything. I’ll go back out tomorrow and set up again.

That’s really the perfect answer. It will take him a bunch of sits in different trees for him to figure out how to get comfortable in any situation.

What he said.
It doesn’t take but a few inches of bridge length/height or indexing on the tree to
Completely change how it feels.
Don’t be afraid to experiment and figure out what is comfortable for you.

I had to waste a couple of hunts figuring all this stuff out.

I wish I had learned all of this when I was younger

Its far better than a climbing stand. Primarily, its much safer.

Im still far from good at it. I can climb trees like a squirrel but doing it quietly and comfortably is a challenge. I bring too much rope.

I’ve learned that slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Less mistakes are made, less noise is made, and less sweating happens. I primarily use the sladder to climb so no metal noises to worry about on the way up. I use the Ultimate Stand Attachment pro to secure my platform to the tree, so no metal buckles to worry about. So far, so good and I’m looking forward to what this season brings.
