Didn’t LSU play Rice in Houston?

LSU was scheduled to play Rice in Houston in 2020 at NRG, not at Rice Stadium. Got wiped out by COVID. LSU will open 2027 against Houston at NRG in the Texas Kickoff Classic, which I guess is put on by the Texas Bowl group.

LSU has a huge alumni base in Houston, and recruits a ton in Houston. Quite different than playing in Philadelphia, though you could argue maybe Oklahoma hopes it helps recruit Pennsylvania? And it is a NFL stadium, not a 30,000-seat on-campus stadium. They might have also done a 2-for-1 with Temple. Dunno.

Why would they? Boise is not in a major conference, and the stadium is small. Makes no financial, alumni or recruiting sense. Just because it seems fun on College Football 26 doesn’t mean it should be done. Big schools don’t play at smaller schools out of the kindness of their hearts.

I looked it up: 2010. Was probably back half of a home and home because Duke played at Bama in 2006.

Duke is a little different because it is in a major conference. LSU played at Syracuse in 2015. Frankly, I’d have preferred they played at Boise, and I still don’t think that game would have made sense.

But LSU’s non-conference scheduling philosophy can be mind-boggling, starting with scheduling potential losses every year in Week 1. It’s good to do it every 2-4 years. Doing it every year is dumb but LSU puts money ahead of everything else.

OU was supposed to play at Tulane until it had to be moved to Norman due to Ida. They've also played at Tulsa and UTEP in recent years. It's not a huge deal.

Yeah, 2010. I prefer LSU to play on the road at a on campus stadium, like Clemson. Its good for the fans, and game. The neutal site crap is getting old, and is nothing more than a money grab. Plus, the only game which would matter is one of the playoff games. Houston has been overplayed enough. Its gotten lamer and lamer each time.

They do it as part of 2 for 1 or 3 for 1

I remember Bama playing at USL in the early 90's and a ranked A&M team losing there a few years later

A really fun one was when Notre Dame @Temple was College Gameday

And Temple almost pulled it off

It sucks with the way the schedule works now for Hawaii that they can't finish the season playing a couple Power conference teams at home.

Mid major schools like Hawaii and those located in large cities were able to get some big schools to visit

I have no problem playing at Clemson other than it be in Week 1. I love that both games in the series are supposed to be played on campus.

But A&M played a home and home with Clemson in consecutive years and each time the game was in Week 2. Play your tough game in Week 2 after you’ve had a week to knock out the offseason rust.
