Anyone else picking this up? Releases on the 25th and is getting high praise. 50$ game out of China somewhat in the vein of stellar blade with a hot girl player character and outfits but it seems the combat will fall more on souls like than hack and slash.
I am buying the game but I hope it goes for more of a hack and slash vibe like stellar blade. I have seen only one studio other than fromsoft make good souls combat and that is neowiz with lies of p

I may still get on Steam. I’ve noticed Steam games run so much better than Gamepass on my gaming PC. I think it’s Gsync

Everything I’ve read on it is positive

I dont know any people personally who played the game early like I did for Clair which was why I was soooo confident calling that game a legit goty level game.
I make no proclamations here but what I do hear about it is that it is very unique, it flows well, and its take on souls like action leans more to code vein (easier) levels than like Sekiro

Got in conduct with someone with a code whose been playing for 9 days
He wouldnt tell me much but said this
This game is very smooth and flows well, its graphically very stunning much like CO expedition 33 it is a AAA product in technical terms
He didnt want to say much more that wasnt vague so ill just transpose his words
"Yeah man it is another one of those feels like a game from the early 2010s but up to todays standards. I think its going to be the second massive release out of china following Wukong, although the game is apparently nothing like wukong in layout or length."
So yeah bois this one is a buy. Its preorder point is also somewhere about 2.5x above where lies of p was a week before its release. Going to be a banger
He also showed me some analytics saying wishlist on steam are linked to 65% lay offer with Wukong and it could be come to be known as "sekiro light" with tits

I will likely be getting this. Waiting to see how early reviews are.
The gameplay is completely my jam, so assuming it's a well crafted and executed version of that style, I'll be happy.
I feel like there was a thread about this a few months ago and my only mild concern was the few boss fight previews I had seen so far seemed very visually cluttered, lots of flames, sparks, smoke, shite like that, made it hard to actually see the fight. A game like this you need to actually see wtf is going on and I'm never a fan of flashy graphical effects drowning out the stuff that matters, so hopefully it's not all like that.
I also hope the game is sufficiently difficult. One problem I've had with most non-Fromsoft "soulslike" games over the past few years is they are far too easy for Souls veterans. They start off feeling right because your character is weak and you are still learning the mechanics, but your character power scales up much faster than the game does, so the back half of the games I usually just tear through all the bosses with ease.

From what I’m hearing there’s very big Sekiro comps here, even down to the way you had your arm in that game for abilities you’ll have your feathers for it.
Since as I said I spoke to one person only who played the game he said he found the game challenging but not as difficult as a blind 1st run of Sekiro and not a fromsoft like narrative at all

Game length 40-60 hours
Over 25 distinct weapons each with range weight and stamina trade offs
Over 40 spells tied to something called Skyborn arts that also alter environments
The world is basically dying, essentially they made dragon rot from Sekiro global and it’s a constant mechanic in the game changing how you fight both human and demons. You can use this to accumulate madness for better combat but risk entering a state where if you die you have to defeat a demonic mirror of yourself before the game will let you respawn

Saw this on steam a few days back and broke my no preorder rule. Looks sick

Im adoring all of these extremely high quality 50$ releases.
Posted on 7/18/25 at 11:07 am to td01241
The price was part of the reason. Plus another cracked chinese souls like?

The game sounds fricking badass. I am a big fan of absorbing boss powers in games and apparently thats the gimic of the magic system in this game so finding and killing optional bosses gives new spells unique to their moveset
There is perfect dodging and perfect parrying. You have a main hand and a duel hand weapon or two hand. Some weapon sets like the small blades have blocks and parrys built into their natural moveset. Some weapons (im assuming like bigger ones) will do more poise break when parrying than others.
Cant wait

13 min of random interspersed gameplay the studio put out to music with none of the UI up or shown
If you don’t want the information about the game skip to 3:48 when the talking ends. The rest is all gameplay with music or ambient sound
Weapon variety and movesets are expansive. This is definitely a full on souls like

Entire.thing looks like a wukong ripoff with a female lead instead of a monkey.
Posted on 7/21/25 at 8:52 am to Gusoline
This game is more of a rip off of sekiro than anhything else if we have to go down that route. It is set in a real era of chinese history with fantastical elements just like sekiro was with japan, not pure fantasy.
Black myth wukong could also be described as a rip off of things that came before, its biggest originality was its unique setting and cultural aspects we never see explored in the west.. But it was just the first to cross the finish line, more of these are coming its not stopping with this game and I for one dont really mind. Im glad to see games drawing from things outside of the western culture and cannon
