Because people were dumb. I loved those uniforms when I was a kid then they changed them to the ugly combo they currently use.

no it was because peach and orangey red is a hilariously bad color scheme for a football team, and the logo they used looked like a gay pirate

I was not a fan of the colors in their time (the perspective of seeing shitty uniforms since has changed that view), but I did like the Buccaneer logo (although the winking was a bit much). It was more "art" (think then Dolphins, Broncos, Patriots, Redskins) than generic logos. Especially now with the crappy "clip-art" type garbage we've had since. I'm pretty sure the NFL just decided to use the same crappy graphic design team with the same crappy computer program to create all of those logos
