I haven't had to think about it until now, but I am needing to get a new propane gas tank for our grill. Is there any type of difference in the brands of gas you're purchasing?

EDIT: the tank itself is no longer usable, so I can't refill it. something happened with the valve.

There are probably many places near you that can fill them, or you can simply swap out tanks at many supermarkets in your area.

Just know that the supermarkets don't want you to bring the tank into the store. When I do a swap I go inside the store and talk to one of the express lane cashiers, pay them for the swap and they call someone to help get the new tank. I just put my used tank by the propane rack outside and trade it for a full one when the store employee arrives.

If you keep the same tank long enough, it will eventually not be certified after so many years and the places that have propane will not fill them. Every tank has an expiration date stamped on it.

we had the tank on our grill for awhile and it just went out, but it also had an issue where we couldn't remove it properly from the fish fry, so I am going to need to get a new one at this point.

Go to any hardware store generally and have them fill. Cheaper and filled to the top each time has been my experience.

Swap it out at your grocery store for $18 then get that tank filled whenever you run out.

Anyplace that sells prefilled propane tanks will take it (gas station, grocery store, etc). Go to one where you can see the tanks and pick the best one. Rip the label off and now you have a new tank you can refill.

Not at my local ACE. They charged me for a whole tank when they only actually topped off a half-empty tank. It would have been nice if they'd told me about that stupid policy ahead of time. I fill mine at U Haul now that my local Costco removed their tanks, which sucks because Costco was dirt cheap.

I have a local mom and pop store that sells grills that does my refills. Older tanks can be re-certified but eventually they will age out. They fill it to the top. Blue Rhino is known for under filling.

Do the tank swap at your local grocery / convience store for a newer one and refill it when the time comes at tractor supply. They only charge you for what they put in it not for the tank capacity.
