What is the argument against forcing AIPAC to register under FARA?

We know JFK tried to get AZCPA, formally AIPAC, to register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act and how that turned out, but why does AIPAC get some special dispensation that Mexico, Chili or Italy doesn't get?

Isn't it an organization of Americans? The 1A permits Americans to associate to argue for political causes, even if it's for another country.
I'm sure there are Mexican-American groups, for example, who you'd never think would need to register under FARA.

I think that's what Ted tried to say to Tucker -- it's just Americans doing what they want.

American lobbyists must register under FARA all the time. This is how Paul Manafort got indicted, as he was working with the Ukrainian government, despite being an American.
AIPAC should absolutely be registered as a foreign agency, working on behalf of a foreign government. That it is comprised of American citizens is completely irrelevant to the nature of FARA.
Why is there so much resistance to pushing AIPAC into this box? Israel and the US shouldn't be tied together as closely as they are. It's worse than anything NATO ever thought about being.

I thought the lore was that he was ingrained in the White Russian (refugees from October Revolution) community and somehow that arrived at him being a CIA agent or useful idiot.

So, you have no idea about FARA registration requirements...

The reason why is that AIPAC represents the foreign policy interests of the United States mediated through the lens of support for the state of Israel and the Jewish people. They don't have to play by the same rulebook because they're just an extension of the state.

I think I need to register with FARA if I'm lobbying President Trump via Steve Scalise to lower the tariff on parmesan cheese to help increase the sales of parmesan cheese to America from Italy.

The US has a much stronger ethnic and historical relationship to the UK. Our interests have been directly intertwined since the War of 1812.
Does the UK have this same special carveout? As an ethnic British Islander, should I demand it?

I have no idea. The most plausible theory IMO was LBJ was very ambitious and he leveraged the tools around him.
