A New Era of College Athletics: House Settlement Impact on TAF

College athletics has officially entered a new era. On June 6, the House v. NCAA settlement received final approval, which has permanently reshaped the structure of college athletics. LSU will now have the ability to directly share revenue with student-athletes through a regulated system, allowing them more opportunities than ever throughout their time competing for the Purple and Gold. Over the past several months, our team at the Tiger Athletic Foundation has been proactively working alongside LSU Athletics to prepare for what’s ahead, as this defining moment marks a transformation in how we sustain, support and compete in the world of intercollegiate athletics. While the settlement affects our university, student-athletes and fundraising priorities, our mission remains unchanged. With your help, we will continue to provide opportunities and invest in champions at LSU.
Some key highlights of the changes that have started at LSU and universities around the country since the settlement are as follows:
Revenue Share: As of July 1, LSU will be able to distribute up to $20.5 million annually to student-athletes directly and will offer support for all 21 of our varsity athletics programs.
Scholarship Increases: The scholarship cap has been removed, allowing us to extend more opportunities to more student-athletes across all sports. LSU will add 65 new scholarships, increasing scholarship costs from $16 million to $18.5 million annually, starting this fall.
NIL Governance: Through a new national governance model, student-athletes will continue to receive compensation for the use of their name, image and likeness. Under this new structure, Bayou Traditions will no longer assist current LSU student-athletes as it has in the past.
A Note on Bayou Traditions and Donor Transition
Effective July 1, TAF Services Corporation has ceased providing fundraising services for Bayou Traditions. As part of this transition, TAFSC is reaching out directly to donors who have made pledges to Bayou Traditions or who have active scheduled payments tied to NIL-related initiatives. These donors are being contacted to approve the redirection of their support to the Tiger Athletic Foundation, ensuring their intent is honored and their generosity continues to benefit LSU student-athletes in a compliant and mission-aligned manner.

So for only 2.5 million dollars LSU could have given out 65 scholarships!!!

Not sure how that works for football as I thought there was no longer a “scholarship cap”, but roster would be limited to 105. They currently show 111 on current roster, maybe walkons will just be “practice squad” now
Ah, we must have ~6 guys that “rolled over” this year.

The rules changes include legislated exceptions for current student athletes with remaining eligibility whose roster spots would have been impacted by immediate implementation of the roster limits. Those designated student-athletes will be identified by their current or former schools, and regardless of the school for which they participate, they will not count toward that school's roster limits for the duration of their eligibility.
The division's core guarantees - which include scholarship protections - are not impacted by the rules changes. If a student-athlete receiving athletics aid loses a roster spot for roster management, athletics performance reasons, or due to injury, that student-athlete's scholarship cannot be revoked unless and until the student chooses to transfer.

That was the whole point of spending out that email. Everything else was just “fluff”

Thanks for sending this as I didn’t check email and now can just avoid it all together.
If you donate to Traditions just redirect those to TAF and the points will be the same as always. That’s what I got out of it.

If players being paid why do we need schollies anymore

They aren’t real students. Normal students can’t pay for what they get…though it’s a thought to offer it. Tuition would double or triple, but you get 2 hours of “tutoring” a day and get your tests administered under their guidance.

First of all, not every athlete is being paid something. In fact its less athletes that are being paid compared to those that are.
As far as scholarships, if you are on the football team you count for one of the scholarship spots (excluding walk-ons). Same for players that play two sports such as football and track. Even if you are mainly at LSU for track, youre classified under a football scholarship.
