When will I-10 be expanded to 3 lanes?

It's ridiculous that with as much traffic as it gets, there's so many bottlenecks on this POS. It's basically a 1 lane highway for a 1/3rd of it's way throughout the state.

That fricker could be 8 lanes and it still would be congested.
It is not really capacity. It really more in the way people drive and cause accidents that lead to congestion.

This is true.
The more lanes, the more people decide to take it. Look at the Katy Freeway.
If you want traffic reduction, the way to go is increase funds to bicycle infrastructure and public transit so that they are desirable options.
I don't know why this is so hard to understand. Build something that allows people to cycle to work. Yes, even in Louisiana. A covered bike path that utilizes old rail systems and/or canals/waterways will get utilized if it's attractive enough. I don't mean slapping together some bullshite path and calling it a rail-to-trail system. I mean actual functional infrastructure.
I know, people on here won't use it. But a lot of people will, consider yourself the special snowflake, and take solace in the fact that your roadway will be less congested if your tax dollars go to this.

You (and I) won't be here to see it.

Absolutely False. There's no bottleneck between Lafayette and Baton Rouge. It's the damn bridge in Port Allen and the whole of Baton Rouge. Once you leave Baton Rouge, no more bottle neck. I10 is fricked for life because that city traffic is there to stay.

These are not, and will never be, desirable options to 99% of people. Lunatic "green" leftists may salivate over the discussion but even most of them wouldn't use it.

My point was that most of the time the most of the time a freeway gets congested is when there are accidents on the side of the road or travel lanes that slow traffic.

They aren't desirable options for 99% of people that you talk to.

10 is two lanes across most of the country. Elect me as lord emporer and I promise to widen all major interstates to 3 lanes minimum. 10, 20, 40, 70, 80, 90, 5, 15, 25, 35, 45, 55, 57, 65, 75, 81, 95.

Decades. But they’re slowly getting there. I-10 will be 6 lanes from 210 on the west side of Lake Charles to the Texas state line in a couple of years once they’re done with that widening. And they’re almost done widening the I-10 bridge over US 165 to 6 lanes.

Just go 5 to 6 lanes and get it over with.

If you think there is a secret large percentage of people that actually would prefer to ride a bicycle (or public transit) over their own personal vehicle, you need to be corrected. At best you're a young idealistic fool. Reality is not your small liberal circle of vegan activists.
Regular adults want their own air conditioned vehicles that move when and where they want, on their schedules. They have the trunk space to fit an entire buggy of heavy groceries. They want convenience.
Edit: even if I was employed 2 blocks from my house, I wouldn't want to ride on bike and arrive to work sweaty in the summer.
Nobody wants to ride a bus full of degenerate criminals. I enjoy paying for the car to avoid those types of people.

Yeah, you're definitely the one to correct someone. Good luck!
