What made this trip so awesome was the variety on non-reptilian critters…

Baby ringtail

Mountain lion

Baby porcupine

Baby javelina

Baby vulture

When I was a kid watching Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom back in the ‘70s, this is the life I dreamed of. And I really owe it all to a social media influencer kid I met in Florida last year.

Nice pictures. Do you know all the species of snakes when you encounter them or do you sometimes come across one you do not know what it is?

When I’m going out of state, I try to study up on the species I’m likely to encounter. But occasionally I run into something unfamiliar and have to shoot off a text to a friend for confirmation.

Didn’t seem like he was in the mood.

The baby vulture was second-most dangerous - they like to projectile vomit on you. Can’t even describe the stink on that creature.

Are the grey-banded still a popular pet in the herping community?

Yes. Locale-specific grey-bandeds are popular in the pet trade. They are very difficult to find in the wild and collection by herpers is a problem. It’s detrimental to collect them in the wild when captive bred are readily available.

The western diamondback still has the best "back the frick off look" of them all

Great pictures and some truly beautiful snakes

I must ask, do you have a wife? Does she follow your crazy candy arse around on all these snake trips?

Is that the one who got hit by the rattler? How is he doing now?
Thanks for the cool pics and explanations.

She has no interest whatsoever. She stays home and watches my dog, which she also hates.

And yeah, those Western diamondbacks are so classic. I just love when I get a chance to photograph one fully posed up with the mountains in the background.

He’s doing pretty good - only lingering effect is foot drop. Due to nerve damage, he can’t lift the front of his foot so it wants to drag when he walks, so he has to kind of high-step with that leg. Doesn’t stop him from climbing mountains or anything though.

Exploring an abandon barn I found two eggs laying on the ground in the back of the barn. It was bizzare...no nest or anything. One of the adult vultures scared the hell out of me and I figured out what it was. When the babies were tiny it was interesting to see them and hear them make crazy sounds. The first time I visited and they sprayed vomit everywhere as a defense I noped out of visiting anymore

Those are some cool looking snakes. Some of those I've never even heard of before

I’m sure he already knows but you can get a brace to help with it . It will keep the foot from “flopping”

Well we didn't have much choice. Three channels with Wild Kingdom, Hee-Haw, Wide World of Sports, Lawrence Welk, and 60 minutes.

Very cool! How many extended trips did you make per year and what states have you gone to for snake trips?
