Surprised to see LSU near the top of the list? You shouldn't be. The past three coaches in Baton Rouge have each collected national titles and Brian Kelly may get that opportunity in 2025 -- or else. The money at LSU has put Kelly in a win-or-bust situation. The Tigers have the nation's No. 1 portal signing class, a deep coaching staff and no excuses should the team fall short. LSU is one of the few programs where you're fired if you don't sniff the national title early in your tenure.

What coach has LSU fired for not sniffing the national title early in his tenure? There hasn’t been one. So this whole statement is BS.

I guess they mean we are used to a coach sniffing the national title early in his tenure, and they assume that anything else is now unacceptable.

Yeah. It's pretty fricking kush if you think about it. The proximity to vast amounts of elite football talent, the resources and facilities, the overwhelming and undying passion and support of Tiger nation, the culture and tradition, etc...its at the top and holds its own against any other position that is out there. If you just seriously halfway know how to run a football program you will be in the hunt for conference tittles and playoff births every damn year once you get your program, culture, coaches and players entrenched. LSU is a fricking juggernaut waiting to be called on to go dominate no matter who it is we are facing. Geaux Tigers.

When’s the last time a coach hasn’t sniffed the national championship early in their tenure
Saban - 4th season
Miles - 3rd season
Orgeron - 3rd season.

So the last coach that didn’t was Dinardo and that was 30 years ago.

Living in Mississippi, I hear this from time to time and must say I don’t entirely agree. Fact of the matter is, unless you have a shitty team, coaches and players do change (sometimes drastically) every year. That was Lesticles’ strong point. He was able to be successful year in and year out because every player wanted to play for him and every coach wanted to work for him.

So, you don't agree that a competent coach at LSU , with all the benefits that the job possesses, should be in the mix foe conference titles and playoff births every year? That means they won't necessarily win conference titles or make the playoffs every year but should and damn well could be in contention and be one of the top 15 teams in the country competing for a playoff spot? If you don't agree with that, we just have different perceptions and expectations of what the reality of LSU football should be. I damn sure believe that a competent coach should at least be in contention and taken seriously as one of the top 20 teams in the country that are in the conversation for a playoff spot every year. There are probably only about 10 or 15 teams in the nation that should have those kinds of expectations...I believe LSU is one of those programs and I'm sure there are plenty of others that see LSU in the same way.

If Saban had stayed at LSU for 25 years instead of going and getting his arse handed to him in the NFL, we win double digit national titles EASILY.
